G Operating instructions
Motion and sound sensor
Item no. 1296298
Intended use
The motion/sound sensor's integrated PIR sensor responds to temperature changes within the detection
range, e.g. when a person enters the range of detection. Also built-in is a sound sensor with adjustable
sensitivity.
The motion/sound sensor is used for monitoring entrances, garage driveways, staircases, or similar. Due
to its design, it can also be used for instance as replacement for a light switch.
Only a resistive load with a capacity of 40 W to 500 W may be connected to the motion/sound sensor.
The motion/sound sensor may only be used on mains voltage (230 V/AC, 50 Hz).
Please read the operating instructions carefully and do not discard them. If you pass the product on to a
third party, please hand over these operating instructions as well.
Any use other than that described above may cause damage to this product and involves other risks such
as short circuits, fire, electric shock, etc. No part of the product may be modified or converted! The safety
instructions must be observed at all times!
This product complies with the applicable national and European requirements. All names of companies

Explanation of symbols, labels
The lightning symbol inside a triangle is a warning to inform you of potential risks of personal
injury, such as electrical shock.
This symbol indicates specific risks associated with handling, function and use.
The "arrow" symbol indicates special tips and operating information.
The product may only be used in dry, indoor rooms; it must not get damp or wet.
Observe the operating instructions!
Safety instructions
R ead the complete operating manual carefully before using the product as it contains impor-
tant information about the correct installation and operation.
D amages due to failure to follow these operating instructions will void the warranty! We do
not assume any liability for any resulting damage!
W e do not assume any liability for material and personal damage caused by improper use
or non-compliance with the safety instructions! In such cases, the warranty will be null and
void!
Warning!
T his product may only be installed by a qualified technician (e.g., an electrician) who is
familiar with the relevant regulations (e.g., VDE)!
I mproper work carried out on the mains voltage endangers not only your own life, but also
the life of others!
I f you do not have the expertise required for the installation, do not install it yourself but ask
a qualified technician.
a) General
• The unauthorised conversion and/or modification of the product is not permitted for safety
and approval reasons (CE). Do not open/disassemble!
• The product is not a toy and does not belong in the hands of children. There is a risk of a
life-threatening electric shock!
• Do not carelessly leave the packaging material lying around since this may become a dan-
gerous toy for children.
• Handle the product with care; it may be damaged by impacts, blows, or accidental falls,
even from a low height.
b) Operating location
• The product may be used in dry, enclosed indoor areas only; it must not get damp or wet!
• Only use the product when it is securely installed and steady. Install the product e.g. - in
a suitable flush-mount or surface mount or other suitable housing, so that the required
protection against contact is ensured.
• The product must not be exposed to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, strong vibra-
tions, dust, dirt or heavy mechanical stress. Keep the product away from strong magnetic
fields generated by machines, electric motors or loudspeakers.
• Do not operate the device in environments where there are high levels of dust, flammable
gases, vapours or solvents. There is a danger of fire and explosion!
c) Connection and operation
• This product should never be touched or operated with wet hands. There is a risk of a life-
threatening electric shock!
• Only carry out the installation when all the mains cables to the motion/sound sensor are
disconnected from the mains voltage. Otherwise, there is a risk of a life-threatening electric
shock!
• Do not connect the product to the power supply immediately after it has been transferred
from a cold room into a warm one (e.g., during transport). The condensation that forms
might destroy the device. Moreover, there is danger of electric shock!
Allow the device to reach room temperature before switching it on. Wait until the conden-
sation has evaporated. This might take several hours. Only after this should it be plugged in
to the mains supply and put into use.
• Never overload the product. Observe the maximum connected load specified in the chapter
"Technical Data".
• Do not use the product if it is damaged. There is a risk of a life-threatening electric shock!
In this case, dispose of the product in an environmentally correct manner.
• If it can be assumed that safe operation is no longer possible, the device must be turned off
and precautions must be taken to ensure that it is not used unintentionally. Do not touch the
motion/sound sensor or any device connected to it.
Disconnect the motion/sound sensor from the mains by switching off at the appropriate cir-
cuit breaker or by removing the fuse. Furthermore, turn off the earth leakage circuit breaker
to disconnect all the poles of the mains supply.
Safe operation can no longer be assumed if:
- the product shows visible signs of damage
- the product does not work at all or works poorly (leaking smoke or a smell of burning,
audible cracking noises, discolouration to the product or the adjacent surfaces)
- the product was stored under unfavourable conditions
- it was exposed to heavy loads during transport
• Use the product only in temperate climate, never in a tropical climate.
• If you have any questions that are not answered in these operating instructions, please
contact our technical department or another specialist.
Function of the PIR sensor
The PIR sensor integrated in the motion/sound sensor responds to temperature changes within the detec-
tion range, e.g., if a person or an animal, with a temperature different from the background, enters the
range of detection.
The range for detecting motion is determined by several factors:
• Installation height
• Temperature difference between the moving object and the background (ambient)
• The size of the object
• The distance of the object from the PIR sensor
• The direction and speed of movement
• Ambient temperature
The horizontal detection angle is 140°. The range depends on the above mentioned factors and is approx.
9 m in normal living areas.
The detection range can be narrowed by covering the curved diffusion panel of the motion/sound sensor
with an opaque cover such as a strip of black insulating tape.
Due to the operating principle applied, the detection of changes in temperature through glass is not pos-
sible. Thus consider selecting an appropriate mounting site.
The recommended mounting height is 1.0 to 1.3 m. Depending on the site of the installation (e.g., stair-
ways), a different mounting height is also possible.
To ensure optimal motion detection, locate the motion/sound sensor so that an object to be detected is not
approaching the motion/sound sensor directly but will pass from left to right or vice versa.
Function of the sound sensor
The sound sensor integrated in the motion/sound sensor responds to ambient sounds such as the open-
ing/closing of doors, hand clapping, language, etc.
Sensitivity of the sound sensor can be adjusted.
Installation and connection
Please observe the chapter "Safety instructions"!
To operate the motion/sound sensor, it must be installed in a proper flush-mount or surface-
mount housing.
The LED floodlight must be disconnected from the power supply during installation. First
switch off all poles of the mains supply by switching off at the circuit breaker or removing the
fuse and then also switch off the associated residual current device.
Secure it against unauthorised reconnection, e.g., with a danger sign. Then check the power
supply for absence of voltage using a suitable measuring instrument.
