Prescribed use
The digital storage oscilloscope is for the visual representation of electrical quantities and
signals. Depending on the type, there are up to four independent input channels for the
measurement. The probes are connected to the oscilloscope by BNC connectors.
The measured signals can be stored and displayed on the screen as a reference for another
measuring channel.
The control is effected by VDU-based control menus.
The measuring voltages indicated on the device must never be exceeded. Use divider probes
if necessary.
Only connect the storage oscilloscope to a grounded socket outlet of the public power supply
system.
Any use other than the one described above damages the product. Moreover, this involves
dangers such as short-circuit, fire, electric shock, etc.
No part of the product must be modified or rebuilt and the housing must not be opened.
No measuring in damp rooms or outdoors, nor under adverse environmental conditions!
Unfavourable environmental conditions are:
- Wetness or high air humidity
- Dust and flammable gases, vapours or solvents.
- Thunderstorms or similar conditions such as strong electrostatic fields etc.
Always observe the safety notes included in these operating instructions.
This short instruction explains safety measures to make working with the device as safe as
possible. The individual functions of the device are described in more detail in the enclosed
operating manual.
Safety Instructions and Danger Warnings
To ensure proper operation of the appliance, please read these operating
instructions completely before you use the product.
• In case of any damages which are caused due to failure to observe these operating
instructions, the guarantee will expire! We do not assume any liability for resulting damages!
• Nor do we assume liability for damage to property or personal injury, caused be improper
use or the failure to observe the safety instructions! The guarantee will expire in any such
case!
• The device is CE-conform and complies with the required European directives.
• The unauthorized conversion and/or modification of the product is inadmissible because of
safety and approval reasons (CE).
• The design of the product complies with safety class I. As a voltage source only a proper,
grounded power socket (230V~/50Hz) of the public power supply system may be used.
• The product is not a toy. Measuring devices and devices connected to the power supply
should be kept out of reach of children. Be especially careful when children are around.
• First connect the BNC output of the probe to the oscilloscope before you connect the probe
with the electrical circuit to be tested. The measuring completed, please disconnect the
measuring contact first, before disconnecting the BNC output of the probe from the
oscilloscope.
• Be especially careful when dealing with voltages higher than 25V AC or 35V DC. Even at
such voltages you can get a life-threatening electric shock when you get in contact with
electric wires.
• Check the measuring device and its measuring lines for damage before each measurement.
Never carry out any measurements if the protecting insulation is defect (torn, ripped off etc.)
• To avoid an electric shock, make sure not to touch the connections/measuring points to be
measured neither directly nor indirectly during measurement.
• Never reach beyond the grip surface of the probes during a measurement process. There
is danger of a life-threatening electric shock.
• Do not use the device shortly before or after a thunderstorms (lightning! / high-energy
overvoltages!) Make sure that your hands, shoes, clothing, the floor, the measuring device
and/or measuring lines, the circuits and also parts of it are always dry.
• Do not operate the measuring device in rooms or under adverse environmental conditions,
where inflammable gases, vapours or dust are or could be present.
• Avoid an operation near:
- strong magnetic or electromagnetic fields
- transmitter aerials or HF generators,
Version 11/06
since it could affect the measurement.
• Only use measurement lines and accessories for the measurement that match the
specifications of the oscilloscope.
• If there is reason to believe that safe operation has become impossible, put the unit out of
operation and secure it against any unintended operation. Safe operation must be pre-
sumed to be no longer possible, if:
- the device exhibits visible damage,
- the unit does not operate any longer and
- the unit was stored under unfavourable conditions for a long period of time or
- the device was exposed to extraordinary stress caused by transport.
• Never turn on the device immediately after it has been brought from a cold room into a warm
one. Condensation water that forms might destroy your device. Leave the device switched
off and wait until it has reached room temperature.
• Never disassemble the product. This could cause a life-threatening electric shock!
• Do not leave packaging material unattended. It may become dangerous playing material for
children!
• The device is only for dry interior rooms (no bathrooms or similar damp rooms). Make sure
the device does not get damp or wet. This could cause a life-threatening electric shock!
• In industrial facilities, the safety regulations laid down by the professional trade association
for electrical equipment and facilities must be adhered to.
• Consult an expert when in doubt about the mode of operation, safety or connection of the
device.
• Handle the product with care and do not drop it; knocks, blows or even a fall from a low height
can damage it.
• Please also note the enclosed detailed operating instructions.
This product left the manufacturer's factory in safe and perfect condition.
We kindly request the user to observe the safety instructions and warnings contained in the
enclosed operating instructions to preserve this condition and to ensure safe operation. Please
observe the following symbols:
An exclamation mark inside a triangle indicates important notes in the operating
instructions which have to be observed.
A flash of lightning in a triangle warns against an electric shock or impairment of
the electrical safety of the device.
The "hand" icon gives you special tips and notes on the operation.
The device is CE-conform and complies with the required European directives.
CAT II
Overvoltage category II for measurement in household devices, connected to the
mains with a power plug.
Protective conductor, safety class I
Ground potential
Reference ground chassis
Regularly check the technical safety of the device e.g. for damage of the
housing, etc.
Never operate the device when it is open!
DANGER TO LIFE!
Never exceed the maximum admissible input values. Do not touch any
circuits or parts of circuits, if they can have higher voltages than 25 V
Acrms or 35 V DC.
DANGER TO LIFE!
Installation of the Oscilloscope
Please install the oscilloscope by means of the handle or the foot in such a way that you can
easily operate and read it.
Avoid direct sunlight over a longer period, since it could damage the screen.
In order to comply with the tolerances in the technical data, the oscilloscope must
have been in operation within the range of operating temperature for at lest 20
minutes.
Cleaning
Before cleaning the device, the following safety notes must be observed:
When you open covers or remove parts – unless you can do this by hand – life
parts can be exposed.
Therefore all the connected lines must be disconnected from the device before
cleaning and maintenance.
Do not use any carbon-containing cleaning agents or benzenes, alcohol or the like to clean the
product. This can attack the surface of the oscilloscope. Furthermore, the fumes are hazardous
to your health and explosive.
Moreover, you should not use sharp-edged tools, screwdrivers or metal brushes or similar for
cleaning.
For cleaning the device or the display and the measuring lines, use a clean, fuzz-free, antistatic
slightly damp cloth.
