Electrical connections

The sauna equipment (sauna stove, control units and light, etc.) may
only be connected to the mains by a trained electrician using a perma-
nent connector.
Note:
The control equipment may be destroyed even if it is incorrectly
connected only once.
The warranty will be voided if the electrical connection is not cor-
rect.
Check the phase assignment before you connect up the stove
Instructions for the electrician
Connect the stove correctly to the domestic installation in accor-
dance with VDE 0100. An external all-pole disconnecting device
with full isolation to overvoltage category III must be installed.
Please note: Take the desiccant pack out of the stove connection box,
otherwise it may catch fire.
All the connection cables installed inside the cabin must be suitable for
an ambient temperature of at least 140°C. An appropriate silicon cable is
an ideal solution. If single-core cables are used to connect the equip-
ment, they must be protected by flexible metal piping. The minimum
cross-section of the connection cable and the minimum size of the sauna
cabin are shown in the following table (Table 1).
Make the electrical connection as shown in the connection diagram.
A connection diagram is affixed to the inside of the duct cover.
Fit the cover after connecting the mains cable.
Please note that live cables must not be routed visibly on the internal
walls of the cabin for safety reasons. Most sauna cabins are therefore
supplied with empty piping in the wall element with the air supply ope-
ning for cable installation.
If your cabin does not have any empty piping, we recommend that you
install a connection socket (not supplied) to the outside of the cabin. Drill
a hole in the cabin wall near the cable from the stove and the connection
socket. Thread the cable through the hole to the external connection
socket. The cable and all other connection cables (supply lead from the
mains and for the cabin light) must be protected on the outside of the
cabin. This can be achieved using installation ducting/piping or using
wooden covers.
Heating elements may absorb residual moisture caused by climate diffe-
rences and this may cause the RCCB to trip without the heating ele-
ments actually having suffered a fault. Before it is used for the first time
the sauna stove must be allowed to stand in the temperature-controlled
room provided for it for at least 12 hours.
Testing the insulation resistance
The resistance values between one core and other can be measured
using an insulation resistance measuring unit.
15 - 18Ω for the Thermic Kompakt 3.6 (2x1.8 kW)
15 - 18Ω for the Thermic Kompakt 5.4 (3x1.8 kW)
19 - 23Ω for the Thermic Kompakt 7.5 (3x2.5 kW)
The insulation resistance between a core and the earth is greater than 1
M for all the stoves. If the discrepancies are excessive, please return
the complete unit.
What to do if the RCCB trips:
Heat for approx. 10 minutes without the RCCB:
The electrician can heat the sauna stove for approx. 10 minutes using
the protective conductor connection. After 10 minutes the stove must be
reconnected properly to the RCCB. If the RCCB trips again, please
return the complete unit to the manufacturer.
