CONTROLS AND DISPLAYS

OUTPUT LEVEL TRIMPOTS
By these controls, the analog output level can be
adjusted within a range of approximately 0 to +20
dB at digital full scale.
STATUS LEDs
The status information at the activated digital input
is displayed by four LEDs.
The 'PRO'- or 'CON'-LEDs light up dependent on
the corresponding bits within the digital input word.
NOTE: the information 'PRO' or 'CON' does not re-
fer to the input type selected, indicated by
the input selector LEDs. The 'PRO'- and
'CON'-LEDs are exclusively controlled by
the professional/consumer bit within the di-
gital data word.
The 'EMPHASIS'-LED lights up, if the emphasis bit
within the digital data word is set, meaning that the
signal is encoded accordingly.
NOTE: this LED indicates that the internal de-em-
phasizing filters have been activated to
compensate recording emphasis.
The 'ERROR'-LED lights up, if the digital input sig-
nal cannot be converted properly. If the error de-
tection function is engaged, the outputs will be mu-
ted, indicated by the 'MUTE'-LED. An error-based
muting cannot be reset by pressing the 'MUTE'-
button.
NOTE: in most cases, an automatic mute is
caused by jittered digital signals that can-
not be synchronized by the internal PLL.
Another possible reason may be a sam-
pling rate outside the permitted range of 28
to 54 kHz.
SAMPLE RATE LEDs
Four LEDs inform about the sampling rate detec-
ted at the active digital input. When the frequency
lies within a +/-200 Hz vicinity of 32, 44.1 or 48
kHz, the corresponding LED will light up. Other fre-
quencies within the possible 28 to 54 kHz range
will be indicated by the 'VARIABLE'-LED.
NOTE: The drop-frame frequency of 44.056 kHz,
as common in video applications, is dis-
played as '44.1'.
THE MUTE BUTTON
The analog outputs can be deactivated by the 'MU-
TE'-button, confirmed by the (Mute-) 'ON'- LED.
Pushing the button again resets the mute function.
NOTE: If an error has been detected, outputs will
be muted automatically. This mute situation
is also indicated by the (Mute-) 'ON'-LED,
but cannot be reset by pressing the mute
button.
INPUT SELECT BUTTONS
One of three digital inputs can be activated by
pressing the corresponding input select button.
These buttons unlock each other if depressed,
meaning that only one input can be active at a ti-
me. The activated input is indicated by the corre-
sponding
LED.
NOTE:
AES/EBU input is activated automatically.
HOW IT ALL WORKS....
PREAMBLE
The DAC F28 offers high-end technology. It is au-
dibly and measurably better than the standard 16-
bit converters usually found in digital audio equip-
ment like DAT machines, HD recording systems
and digital multitracks.
