6 Putting into operation

6.1 Connections
On the connector side, compressed air nozzles (3/8 NPSI thread) of different
nominal diameters can be used.
The hollow cable (3) is used for power and compressed air distribution and is
equipped on the handle side with or without a hinge (2). The connection of the
copper cord of the hollow cable to the connector is a screw-type connection.
The slide valve can be used to connect and disconnect the compressed air. The
carbon electrodes are clamped between the clamp lever and the flat nozzle.
The air openings of the flat nozzle point towards the arc.
Plasma-arc gouging is a method for removing or cutting metal parts. In gouging
a welding current conducted through carbon electrodes produces a plasma
arc that liquefies the metal by melting it. The melt is air-blasted by means of a
compressed air jet aligned by nozzles.

For the entire duration of maintenance, servicing, dismounting and repair
work, the following instructions must be adhered to:
• Switch off the power source.
• Close off the compressed air supply.
• Pull the mains plug.

Connect the gouging torch while observing the following:
1 Keep the slide valve at the handle closed.
2 Screw in the compressed air hose along with the compressed air nozzle
(3/8 NPSI thread).
