5.6. Installation
- Check that the sealing rings for the unions are in place.
Note:
1. The valve at the bottom must be closed before you start to fill the skimmer!
2. Ensure the availabilty of a sufficient quantity of usable salt water. The skimmer needs approx. 400 l
to be filled up.
The drain from the skimmer has to run freely into the trickle filter.
The skimmer can now be filled by pumping water directly from the filter sump.
Ensure that the water level of the filter is not lowered too much.

Top up with salt water as necessary.

After first use or after cleaning the skimmer, it takes some time for the initial foam to build up in the
reaction pipe of the collection cup. This is because the cleaned acrylic initially reacts with the water
until a build up of fatty acids naturally takes place.
After approx. 24 hours, the foam should be pushed slowly and evenly into the collection cup. The
quantity of liquid and organic substances depends on the pollution of the aquarium.
5.7. Maintenance
Collection cup: Depending on the organic load, the cup should be cleaned daily to weekly.

Reaction pipe: This needs only occasional cleaning; we recommend intervals from 6 to 12

months.
Venturi pump: Maintenance of the pump should be done at the same time as that of the reaction
•
pipe:
- Drain the water out and dismantle the pump. Flush pump housing and venturi nozzle with clean
water.
5.8. Failures
Failures may arise if:
- The ratio between supplied air and water quantity is not correct.
Cause:
Air injection nozzle is clogged or the pump chamber is dirty.
Action:
Dismantle venturi pump, clean it thoroughly, carefully clean the air injection nozzle with a thin brush
or blunt instrument and re-assemble the pump again.
6. UV-C sterilizer (optional)
UV sterilizer clear the water with the help of UV-C radiation. This radiation is emitted by special lamps.
The UV-C radiation kills all forms of life that is directly exposed to the radiation – microalgae, bacteria,
protozoa and other parasites. This results in crystal clear water and healthy fish.
The UV-C sterilizer is pulled upwards. The lamps are located in a holder (Fig. 3, No. 4). The holder
with the UV-C lamps may only be drawn out in dead state.
