Take up the loops on one side with a knitting needle. Then use the second
needle to knit 1 row of knit stitches. Knit another 4 rows of garter stitches.
Use a crochet needle to work the final row: *take 1 loop through 1 stitch and
finish off as a slst, 1 ch. Repeat starting from * By finishing off with crochet, the
final row doesn't pull together much, so the lace lies flat.
