This manual must be translated (if necessary) by the distributor into the language of the country where the equipment is to be used.
For your safety, comply strictly with the instructions for use, verification, maintenance and storage.
ABS SAFETY GMBH cannot be held liable for any direct or indirect accident occurring following use other than that provided for in these instructions; do not
use this equipment beyond its limits!
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE AND PRECAUTIONS:
A retractable fall arrester is a type of personal protective equipment. It must be assigned to a single user (it can only be used by one person at a time). When the
user is moving (ascending/descending), the cable/webbing winds and unwinds around a pulley. The cable is kept taut thanks to a counter spring. In the event of
a fall, a system prevents the cable/webbing from unwinding, instantly stops the user from falling further and starts to dissipate energy, at the same time the
dissipating mechanism for the energy in the webbing placed at the end of the retractable lanyard tears to absorb the energy generated by the fall.
User safety relies on the effectiveness of the equipment and full understanding of the safety instructions contained in this leaflet.
The legibility of the product's markings must be checked regularly.
The device's anchoring point must be positioned above the user (minimum resistance 12 kN) and must comply with standard EN795:2012
For safety reasons and before each use, make sure that, in case of a fall, there are no obstacles to prevent the normal movement of the cable or the webbing.
The retractable lanyard on your device must not be extended (by adding a lanyard, connectors, or other components).
VERTICAL USE:
The swivel can be connected to either the anchoring point on the structure or to the attachment point on the harness using a connector (EN362).
It is prohibited to use the device with sharp edges, structures with small diameters and corrosion as this can affect the performance of the cable or the webbing,
unless these are adequately protected.
Check that the general position limits the pendulum movement in the event of a fall and that the work is done so as to limit the risk and height of a fall.
The maximum angle of inclination when used vertically must be: 40°.
When used in this way, the clearance must be at least: 2.5 m under the user.
HORIZONTAL USE: ABS SAFETY GMBH reels (PS-BL-B-3,5 / PS-BL-B-6 / PS-BL-S-3,5 / PS-BL-S-6) have passed the horizontal use test for
sharp edges with a radius of r>=0.5mm (in accordance with European document RfU CNB/P/11.060: 2014).
For this horizontal use, the device's anchorage point must be located at the same height as the edge where the risk of a fall exists. To limit the
swinging effects, the work zone must be located within a 30° angle of both sides of the axis perpendicular to the edge and passing through
the anchorage point.
When using the device horizontally, near a sharp edge, the top swivel must be connected to the structure's anchorage point, the energy dissipater placed on the
retractable lanyard MUST be connected to the attachment point on the harness, use in the opposite direction is PROHIBITED.
When used in this way, the clearance must be at least: 4.5 m under the user.
Use the product between: -30°C / 50°C.
It is advisable not to suddenly let go of the cable/webbing when the cable is unwound; it is better to assist with the rewinding process.
Before and during use, we recommend that you make the necessary arrangements for a safe rescue, should this be required.
This equipment must only be used by trained, competent and healthy persons, or under the supervision of a trained and competent person. Warning! Certain
medical conditions can affect user safety, if in doubt please contact your doctor.
Be aware of the hazards that could reduce the performance of your equipment, and therefore the user's safety, if exposed to extreme temperatures (< -30°C or >
50°C), prolonged exposure to the elements (UV rays, humidity), chemical agents, electrical constraints, twisting of the fall arrest system during use, sharp
edges, friction or cutting, etc.
Before each use, check: that the locking system is working and that the fall indicator has not been activated (if installed on the connector). Check that the
cable/webbing is not cut, frayed or burnt. Check that the metal parts are not deformed or oxidised, and check that the connectors are working properly
(locking/opening). The protective casings and the cover of the energy dissipater must be in place and undamaged. All marking must be readable. If there is any
doubt as to the condition of the device, or after a fall, it must not be reused (marking it with the words "DO NOT USE" is recommended) and must be returned
to the manufacturer or to a qualified person appointed by the manufacturer.
Do not remove, add or replace any component of the product.
Chemical products: Put the system out of use if it comes into contact with chemical products, solvents or fuels which could affect its operation.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS:

Cable diameter: 4.8 mm - Material: galvanised steel - breaking strength > 12 kN
Webbing width: 25 mm – Material: polyester – breaking strength > 15 kN
COMPATIBILITY FOR USE:
The device can be used with a fall arrest system as defined in the product's factsheet (see standard EN363). A fall arrest harness (EN361) is the only body
support device permitted for use. It may be dangerous to create your own fall arrest system in which each safety function may interfere with another safety
function. As such, before each use, refer to the recommendations for use for each of the system's components.
INSPECTIONS:
The recommended service life of the equipment is 10 years (in accordance with the annual examination by a competent person authorised by ABS SAFETY
GMBH) for devices with a cable lanyard or webbing lanyard, but it may be increased or reduced according to use and/or the results of the annual inspections.
The product must always be inspected if there is any doubt or after a fall and at least annually by the manufacturer or the manufacturer's representative, to
ensure it is strong and therefore safe for the end user. The product's factsheet must be completed (in writing) after each check; the inspection date and the date
of the next inspection must be indicated on the factsheet, it is also advisable to specify the date of the next inspection on the product.
MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE: (these instructions must be strictly observed)
During transportation, keep the equipment away from any cutting edges and in its packaging. Clean with water, wipe with a cloth and hang in a ventilated room
to dry naturally, ensuring that it is away from any direct light or source of heat; the same applies for elements that may have got wet during use. The device must
be stored in a cool, dry and ventilated room, and in its packaging.
