Adjusting the Lowering Device
Place a record on the turntable and put the arm-lift lever into
the raised position 2 . Lift the tone-arm and place it over the
first run-in groove of the record.
The stylus tip should be at a height of 4 to 6 mm above the
run-in groove.
When adjustment is needed it can be done by turning the
knurled nut found on the arm-lift segment, raising or lowering
the tip above the record surface.
Anti-skating
When a stylus is playing a record, a certain force develops as
a result of friction. Because of the geometrical design of mod
ern tone-arms, this force tends to pull the stylus against the
inner wall of the record groove. When it is uncompensated for,
this force eventually causes distortion and uneven wear of the
stylus; therefore, an anti-skating system is fitted to the record
player to counteract this force. The anti-skating force is greater
when the stylus is at the outside of the record and slightly less
in the middle of the record, increasing again toward the end of
the record.
A new, specially designed anti-skating system has been de
signed for the L 833 DD / L 830 DD for more precise compen
sation of skating force.
Setting the Anti-skating
This new anti-skating device has six different compensation
scales:
Scale for Shibata styli, adjustable from 0 to 35
1+2«A»
[mN]
3 + 4 «0»
Scale for spherical styli, adjustable from 0 to 50
[mN]
5 + 6 «o »
Scale for elliptical styli, adjustable from 0 to 30
[mN]
As the anti-skating force is considerably reduced when a record
is played «wet» (i. e., with Lencoclean «L»), the anti-skating
must be equipped wiht two scales per stylus type.
— Blue-marked scale for wet playing;
— Orange-marked scale for dry playing.
Before setting the anti-skating device, check again that all the
other instructions have been carefully followed.
To set the correct anti-skating force, turn the wheel to the same
number as the stylus pressure on the appropriate scale.
Scale for «Shibata» styli
Scale for spherical styli
Scale for elliptical styli
Markings for adjustment of
anti-skating force
Markings plate
Knurled screw for height
adjustment of tone-arm lift
Examples:
1. If a Shure M-75, type II spherical stylus with an optimum
force of 25 [mN] is used, the scale «0» corresponding to the
playing method (wet or dry) has to be adjusted to 2.5 (anti
skating X10 [mN]).
2. If a Shure M-91 ED elliptical stylus with an optimum force of
12 [mN] is used, the scale «o» corresponding to the method
(wet or dry) has to be adjusted to 12 (antiskating X10 [mN]).
3. If an AT 20 SLA Shibata stylus with an optimum force weight
of 15 [mN] is used, the scale «A» corresponding to the
playing method (wet or dry) has to be adjusted to 1.5 (anti
skating X10 [mN]).
Electrical Connections
The screened pick-up lead is fitted with a standard plug which
is suitable for connection to the input of the amplifier or radio.
This input is usually marked «Grammo», «Pick-up» or «TA».
Modern amplifiers, tuners and tape recorders of European
origin are fitted wiht standard sockets which the plug on the
L 833 DD / L 830 DD will match.
Users in the UK should pay special attention on the following:
If the colours of the wires in the mains lead of this unit do not
correspond with the coloured markings identifying the terminals
in your plug, proceed as follows:
Connect the blue wire to the terminal which is marked with the
letter N or coloured black.
Connect the brown wire to the terminal which is marked with
the letter L or coloured red.
Operating Instructions
Place a record on the turntable, turn the speed change knob
to the desired speed, whether 33V3 rpm or 45 rpm and press
the «ON» button. When the turntable begins to rotate move the
arm lowering device lever forward and the pick-up arm will
automatically be lowered slowly onto the record.
L 833 DD
At the end of the record the incorporated electronic shut-off
switch will automatically stop the turntable and lift the tone-
arm from the record.
Return the tone-arm by hand to the tone-arm rest. Should you
wish to interrupt record play, push the «OFF» button once,
switching the unit off and raising the tone-arm from the record.
To replay a particular section of the record, bring the tone-arm
lever into the raised ¥ position and then over the relevant
section. Place the lever in the down position 2 , lowering the
arm gently onto the record. If the section to be replayed is
inside the automatic switch-off region, e. g., toward the end
of a 17-cm-diameter record, the «ON» button must be pressed
until a second slight «click» is heard. The turntable will revolve
and the tone-arm may be lowered onto the desired section; the
unit will still automatically switch off at the end of the record.
