Short Technical Description
The electronic servo-controlled direct-drive motor is mounted
on a steel base plate. The aluminum pressure-molded turn
table is mounted directly on the motor shaft. The tone-arm is
mounted on 4 miniature ball races. The balance weight is
especially sprung and designed to counteract rumble reso
nance and any mechanical shaking. The stylus force is accu
rately adjustable from 0 to 50 [mN]
0—5 [p].
A
The light-weight interchangeable plug-in head shell can accom
modate any pick-up cartridge with the international Va" size.
The stylus position is also adjustable. The turntable has an
illuminated stroboscope around its edge. The pick-up lowering
device is hydraulically damped. It has two speeds: 33V3 and
45 RPM (A [min."1]).
The L833 DD has an electronic fine speed adjustment of ±4
[%], and a high-frequency-controlled auto-stop which quietly
and smoothly raises the arm and stops the turntable at the end
of the record.
The unit is switched «ON» with a push button.
Unpacking the L 833 DD / L 830 DD
The L833 DD was thoroughly checked before it left the factory
and was sent to you in perfect condition. Under no circum
stances may the precision tone-arm be used for holding or
pulling when unpacking the unit from its carton.
Preparation for Use
The L833 DD / L830 DD is supplied either built into a plinth or
as a chassis model. In order that damage may be prevented to
the turntable spindle during transit, the turntable is removed
and packed separately. The light-weight head shell and the
balance weight are also separately packed in the packaging
material. Please remove any dust from the cone-shaped axle
before putting the turntable into place. Place the turntable on
the spindle and then the turntable mat over it.
The L833 DD / L 830 DD is supplied for connection to 220 V /
50—60 [Hz] and switchable 110—220 [V] / 50—60 [Hz].
Mounting the Cartridge into the Plug-in Head-shell
The L833 DD / L830 DD is normally supplied with a cartridge
correctly mounted in the head-shell.
If you have bought your L 833 DD / L 830 DD record player
without a cartridge fitted in, or if you wish to change the car
tridge which is mounted into your record player you should
proceed as follows:
Place in readiness the empty plug-in headshell with the four
pick-up cables, and the cartridge with the two screws provided
with it.
Caution! The stylus of the cartridge is very delicate and must
be protected from damage with the plastic guard cap (or flap
visor) provided for this.
Screw the cartridge into the mounting plate of the plug-in head
with the two screws. The screws should be parallel to the front
of the head.
Using a pair of tweezers, carefully attach the four pick-up cables
to the pins on the back of the cartridge in the following manner:
Red wire
= Right Channel, marked R
Green wire = Ground, Right Channel, marked RG
White wire = Left Channel, marked L
Blue wire
= Ground, Left Channel, marked LG
Important! Attach the four cables as shown on the sketch below.
The wires must be in the upper head section to preclude an
intermittent rumbling sound. This is essential if you are fully to
enjoy the excellent qualities of this studio record player.

Operating instructions
Place the plug-in shell on the pick-up arm and tighten with the
knurled nut. Place the cardboard pick-up template on the turn
table with the cut-out against the pick-up pedestal and the hole
«A» over the turntable center spindle.
Lift the pick-up arm from the rest, slightly loosen the screw on
top of the head shell and place the arm over the template. The
arm-lift lever should now be brought forward into the down
position 2 .
Slide the cartridge until the stylus point is exactly on the black
line marked on the template.
The arm-lift lever should be pushed back into the raised posi
tion 2 and the screw carefully tightened. Check once again
that the stylus is still exactly on the black line. If it has moved,
repeat this procedure.
Adjusting the Stylus Force
Turn the anti-skating adjustment wheel into the zero position.
Bring the arm-lift lever into the down position 2 . Take the
balance weight and, with the scale markings facing toward the
front of the unit, turn it on to the tone-arm until the arm is
equally balanced (arm floats parallel to the turntable). Return
the arm onto its rest and while holding the main counter-weight,
rear section, turn the stylus force scale ring until «0» is aligned
with the white line on the tone-arm pedestal. Check the tone-
arm balance once more.
The complete counter-weight should now be turned to the
required stylus force by a counter-clockwise movement as
viewed from the front of the unit. If a playing force of more
than 30 [mN] is required, the complete counter-weight should
be turned one complete revolution to «0», which is equivalent
to a playing force of 30 [mN]. The counter-weight can then be
turned further on to the difference between 30 [mN] and the
required force, e. g., for a stylus force of 50 [mN] the counter
weight must be turned for one complete revolution past «0»
and then on to the 20 mark, thus giving the required 50 [mN].
So that maximum music performance may be obtained, the
stylus force should not be set lighter than necessary. Too low
a force can lead to increased record wear. Therefore, a stylus
force toward the upper limits recommended by the cartridge
manufacturer should be carefully followed. For this reason, a
general table of such force is amended at the end of this
manual.
