Maintenance
Your UHER "4000 REPORT-L" has been precision-manufactured
advanced methods. It has been thoroughly tested and will operate
for a long time requiring almost no maintenance.Since all bearings
are of the self-oiling type, no lubricating of the moving parts will be
necessary for several years under normal operating conditions. There-
fore it is sufficient, especially when using new tapes, to check the
sound head for adhering dust and tape coating particles. Any foreign
matter adhering to the sound head will cause deterioration of record-
ing and playbackas well as a loss of the high frequencies.
In order to clean the sound head, remove the cover plate (A), which
is located directly behind the keyboard and the trapezoid cap (B) as
shown.Therebythe pressure roller (D), the tape guides (E, F) and the
sound heads (G, H) become accessible and can be cleaned by means
of a piece of fabric, soaked with fuel alcohol, which is preferably
wrapped around a small wooden stick. The capstan (J) must also be
cleaned of adhering dust and tape coating particles.
We should like to remind you once more that worn-out flashlight cells
must immediately be removed from the recorder under all circum-
stances. This is of special, importance when using normal flashlight
cells instead of leak-proof
cells'
