Optical fiber connection

1. Remove the upper casing part as described in the last section of chapter 2.3.
2. Pay attention to the safety precautions for handling optical fibers and class 1 laser
beams which are given on page 3 of this manual.
Insert the fiber(s) coming from the Access Switch / CATV Headend resp. Provider
through one of the predetermined break-throughs on the casing (see figures 4 to 6).
Make sure to provide for a reliable tension relief by using the cable straps. Insert the
optical fiber(s) in multiple oval-shaped bends on the fiber carrier. Use appropriate
tools to ensure optimum quality of the junctions, and splice the ends of the fibers com-
ing from the Access Switch / CATV Headend resp. Provider with the ends of the fi-
bers in the CPE (figure 3). Keep in mind that a low-quality joint means a reduced
transmission rate! Fix the optical fibers in the grooves of the fiber carrier and attach
dust covers to open fiber ends resp. fiber connectors. Make sure that the optical fiber
connector has been fastened correctly.
3. Using the pliers, carefully break off the cut-out from the upper casing part, where the
fiber is led through the casing. If required, the PI box can be protected by attaching a
cover, as long as the CPE has not yet been installed.
4. Snap-in the upper casing part onto the bottom part and tighten the screw. It is not al-
lowed to operate the PI box with the upper part removed.
