Commissioning
Commissioning checks
Flushing the pipe system
Before any pump is brought into service
during
initial
commissioning
commissioning after an overhaul, all
pipework associated with the pump
should be flushed.
Motor rotation check
Briefly start the motor, check rotation
and
correct
if
necessary.
direction of rotation is right-turning when
seen from the pump motor end.
Pump shaft rotation check
The shaft should be rotated by hand to
ensure that the impeller turns freely
within the pump housing. Any indication
of
fouling
the
impeller
adjusted.
Priming procedure
A centrifugal pump is not self priming
and if it fails to generate its rated
delivery head on starting it must be
stopped immediately and the fault
rectified. Please check that the pump is
submerged in the pump liquid as
indicated on the drawing in chapter 8.
Starting procedure
Before starting the pump carry out the
check list below:
- Test and make available any
alarm
signals,
systems and any other protective
devices
incorporated
pumping system.
- Ensure that sufficient fluid is
available at the inlet pipe to
satisfactory prime the pump.
When these procedure checks are
satisfactory the pump can be started.

Operational checks
When
operational speed the delivery valve can
be opened slowly and the pump brought
up to max load. Following checks must
be made accordingly:
Correct
If the pump fails to deliver the rated
delivery head it must be stopped

immediately, the cause ascertained and
the fault rectified before restarting.
WARNING: Pumps that are not fittet
with a the leak-off device should not be
run for a long period against a closed
discharge valve.
Check that the drive unit is not being
overloaded.
The drive unit will not be overloaded as
long as running with the minimum
capacities shown in chapter 5. Careful
regulation of the delivery valve until the
system is fully charged will prevent
overloading.

- Ensure that the delivery valve is
approx. 10% open to ensure
counter pressure.

unusual noises.
For installations pumping hot
liquids, the operator must be
aware that it is dangerous to
touch the pump surface and,
consequently, he must take
the
necessary
precautions.
