Prerequisites for use
WARNING
Note the following instructions during use. Non-compliance
can lead to injuries or death.
– The chemical protective suit must be used in accordance
with the applicable standards and directives of the country
in question.
– The user has to consider national and other requirements
for the use of personal protective equipment.
– For chemical protective suits with face cuffs, Dräger
recommends individually checking the fit for every user to
ensure maximum protection during use.
– The environmental chemical load must be determined
prior to use, since the suitability of the chemical protective
suit must be determined before its use. The chemical
protective suit must only be used for suitable purposes.
Full face masks and hoses must display appropriate
permeation resistance and chemical resistance.
– Overgloves may need to be used if the thermal insulation
and mechanical protection provided by the chemical
protective suit is inadequate.
4.2
Instructions on using the fastener
system
The fastener system has been developed especially for the
chemical protective suits. Generally, the additional seals
make mobility more difficult in comparison to zip fasteners on
normal clothing. To prevent folds forming on the fastener
system, the open section of the fastener system must be free
of tension and operated without being twisted. At the same
time, the closed area must be held tight with the hand. The
protective suit wearer should be standing upright when
opening and closing the fastener system.
24
CAUTION
Danger of damage to the fastener system!
Fastener systems without sufficient lubrication are more
difficult to operate. This can result in damage to the fastener
system.
► The two zip halves must be parallel, unstressed and
opposite each other.
► Do not use force when opening and closing the fastener
system or jerk the zip.
► Lubricate the fastener system using the grease stick
supplied by Dräger.
4.2.1 Opening the fastener system
– Fully open the fastener system.
– Always pull the zipper tab in the direction of the zipper
mechanism; never pull diagonally!
– Do not use force. Zip elements can become bent!
– If the zipper tab gets caught, pull it back and push it
forward again.
4.2.2 Closing the fastener system
– When closing the fastener system, avoid diagonal forces
on the zip.
– Pull the zip sections together by hand.
The zip can be pulled up gently along the section that is
being pulled together.
– Foreign objects (e.g. shirt, jacket, threads) must not be
trapped between the zip elements.

Preparations for use
4.3.1 Preparing the chemical protective suit
Dräger recommends that you keep the flat bags in which
the chemical protective suit was delivered for later storage
purposes.
1. Check for leaks before using the suit for the first time in
order to detect any damage due to transport. Then follow
the maintenance intervals. For further information see:
"Maintenance table", page 27.
WARNING
Death or danger of severe injury!
Using damaged chemical protective suits may result in death
or severe injury.
► Do not use a damaged chemical protective suit.
2. Place the chemical protective suit flat on the ground and
inspect visually. For further information see: "Visually
inspecting the chemical protection suit", page 27.
3. If fitted, check the function of the air supply unit. If there is
no air supply connected, seal the ventilation unit
connections to protect against dirt.
4. Where necessary, fasten the braces with the relevant
shackles.
So that the braces can be fastened at the correct
height, there are multiple fastening straps on the chemical
protective suit. Depending on the size of the wearer, the
braces should be fastened so that the waist belt of the
compressed air breathing apparatus or compressed air
hose respirator of the training unit does not get stuck.
