Disconnect the battery from the battery charger before connecting any loads to the
battery.
When connecting or disconnecting the battery there might be sparks. Therefore, make
sure your location is properly ventilated!
• Watch out for the right polarity when connecting the battery to the battery charger (red
charger terminal = plus/+, black charger terminal = minus/-).
• Never charge batteries with an internal short-circuit.
• Never charge frozen batteries. If the electrolyte is frozen, allow the battery to thaw
completely in a warm room before charging it. This may take several hours, depending
on the battery.
• Lead-acid storage batteries contain aggressive and corrosive acids. Avoid skin or eye
contact with any battery fluids! Never dismantle lead-acid storage batteries! On skin

CHARGING A LEAD-ACID STORAGE BATTERY
• First make sure your lead-acid storage battery is a 12 V battery. Do not charge batteries with
different operating voltage!
• Disconnect all loads from the battery.
• If the battery is installed in a car, turn off the ignition and any other loads.
Observe the instructions and safety information of the vehicle to find out how the
vehicle battery should be charged. Modern vehicles are equipped with sensitive
electronic parts and controls that can be damaged if you do not proceed properly!
We recommend disconnecting all poles of the battery from the vehicle. First disconnect
the ground connection (minus/-) from the battery. Then disconnect the plus connection
(+). Please note that the radio or the on-board computer in your vehicle might lose data
during this process.
• Carefully clean the terminals of the battery. Make sure that no residues come into skin or eye
contact.
• First take all cables out of the cable compartment (2) at the back of the battery charger, which allows
the fan inside the compartment to run properly. Plug the mains cable into a mains socket
(230 V~/50 Hz).
