General information

The Shift:R is designed to operate with a Rohloff Speedhub 500/14 with
external gear mech. It replaces the original Rohloff external gear mech and
the associated Twistshifter. The gear levers can be mounted on a straight
handle bar with an outer diameter of 22,2mm or a drop bar with 31,8mm.
The Shift:R shiftbox uses two counter rotating ratchets. Depending on the
actuating direction, one of the ratchets engages a tooth ring which triggers
the shifting operation via the hexagonal interface of the shifting cyclinder.
The two ratchets work in mutual dependence and interplay, if the shifting
operation in one direction is ongoing, the other direction has to be in ease of
operation. In idle position, none of the ratchets are engaged with the tooth
ring, due to the mechanics of the return springs and demeshing plates.
The switching operation will be triggered through a cable seat, which
engages its corresponding ratchet with the tooth ring. Any standard shifter
cables with a maximum nipple diameter of 4,5mm can be used.

Important
Shift cable index housings have to be used. Do not use brake housings!
Continuous cable routing is recommended. Do not open the Shift:R box
before you remove the tension of the return springs by unscrewing
the cable retainer (for further information see section »changing gear
cables«). Only operate one gear lever at a time to ensure a proper
switching operation.
