5. Operation
The VLE4 is only suitable for charging NiMH batteries; do not insert
other types.
Press the backlight button [3] at any time to switch on the backlight for
± 15 seconds.
Charging
Open the top of the charger by pressing the open-button [2].
For type AA/AAA/C/D batteries: insert up to 4 batteries between the
charger terminals [1]. Respect the polarity as indicated inside the
charger.
For type 9 V batteries: insert up to 2 batteries into the dedicated
terminals of the charger.
Close the top of the charger.
Plug the output connector of the included adaptor into the power jack
[6]. Only use the included adaptor or one with the same specifications.
Plug the adaptor into a suitable mains outlet.
The LCD [4] will display the word CHARGE and shows the current load
of each inserted battery ([C] or [D]).
When all batteries are full, the word FULL is shown.
Unplug the charger from the mains and remove the batteries.
In case a bad or wrongly inserted battery is detected, the display shows
BAD and the icon of the faulty battery is flashing. Re-insert the battery
in the correct way or dispose of the bad battery in the appropriate way.
Discharging
Insert batteries and connect the charger to the mains (see
§5 Charging).
Press the discharge button [5] within 1 minute after connecting the
charger to the mains. After 1 minute of charging, the button is disabled
automatically.
The word DISCHARGE is shown and the battery icons will flash until all
batteries are discharged.
When discharging is completed, charging starts automatically.
USB port
When no batteries are present inside the charger or all inserted
batteries are fully charged, the USB port [7] becomes available. The
USB available icon [B] is shown.
Make sure the load connected to the USB port does not exceed 500 mA.
