Characteristic curves

5.2.1

Choosing the characteristic curves

There are many types of paper, which is why there is no standardized allocation of characteristic curves.
The following overview of characteristic curves contains different suggestions for different types of paper.
To get exact measurement results, you need to perform a one-time comparison measurement with your
online humidity measuring system or by the kiln drying method (DIN 287):
1. Measure your paper with the characteristic curves that have a realistic value and note the
measurement results of the characteristic curves.
2. Note the actual value of the online humidity measurement or carry out a reference measurement
according to EN ISO 287.
3. The measurement values of the PCE-PM 3 have to be compared to the actual measurement
value of the reference measurement. Use the calibration curve with the measuring result nearest
to the reference water content.
4. The name of the characteristic curve can be changed to your paper name.
5.2.2

Determining the reference water content

The instrument shows the water content which means that the moisture will be calculated in reference to
the total mass (EN ISO 287)

Mn:
Mass of the sample before the drying process
Mt:

Overview of characteristic curves

When one of the arrow keys is pressed for three seconds there will be an overview of the characteristic
curves shown on the display. A characteristic curve can be selected and applied by the power button.
