Placing and connecting a soil moisture
sensor (Soil product variants)
NOTE
This system is not intended to be used
in residential areas and cannot ensure
adequate protection of radio services in
such environments. The product vari-
ants "Basic Soil" and "Premium Soil" use
the Decagon GS1 soil moisture sensor,
which intentionally generates energy in
the HF range according to the measuring
principle. This is classified according to
EN 55011 in group 2 (frequency range
9 kHz to 400 GHz), class A (use outside
the residential area).
The soil moisture sensor should be placed at
the roots of the plants. The soil should be com-
pacted to the same level as around the roots.
There should be no air pockets.
Lay the cables so that they are protected
against mechanical damage, such as from tools
or agricultural machinery.
▷ Connect the Superseal connector of the
soil moisture sensor to temperature and
air humidity sensor A with the Y cable (see
figure 4, page 3).
▷ Dig a hole to the same depth as the roots.
▷ Press the contacts of the sensor into the
side of the hole. The contacts must be posi-
tioned vertically above one another.
▷ Fill in the hole again and gently compact the
soil by hand.

Operation

Operation solely requires the preparations spe-
cified under "Commissioning" and "Assembly".
The monitoring station will then work automati-
cally and without requiring maintenance.
You can monitor the state of charge of the
battery via the "measuring stations" tab in the
main menu or via the settings of a field itself.
When the state of charge decreases to red, you
will automatically receive a new battery from
Deepfield Connect. If you wish to replace the
battery but are unable to locate your spare
battery, please get in touch with us.

Measurement and transmission
intervals
The measurement and transmission intervals
vary depending on the temperature or humid
temperature measured. The standard interval
is one measurement every 10 minutes and one
data transmission every 60 minutes.
You will receive measured values every 10 mi-
nutes if the humid temperature is below 5 °C
or the temperature is above 25 °C.

Disassembly

Disconnecting the cables
▷ Undo the cap nut from the transmitter socket
by turning it counterclockwise and discon-
nect the connector of the transmitter cable.
▷ Screw the cover cap back onto the socket to
protect it against dirt.
▷ Disconnect all Superseal connections.
Removing the sensors
▷ Release the sensors from their fixtures.
Retrieving the soil moisture sensor
from the soil
▷ Remove as much soil as necessary to be able
to grip the sensor and pull it out of the soil.
NOTE
▶ Risk of damage!
Using tools or pulling on the cable can
destroy the soil moisture sensor. Do not
use tools and do not pull on the cable in
order to retrieve the sensor from the soil.
Detaching the transmitter from the
transmitter bracket
▷ Take the safety cap off and open the cable
tie.
▷ Pull the transmitter bracket out of the
ground.
