With an Automatic Retracting Fall Arrester, , It is essential to allow a clearance of 5.75 m
(minimum working height) under the user for work with a fall factor of 2.
For these Automatic Retracting Fall Arrester, this height can be reduced to 4.75m.
As a general rule, the minimum working height for a fall factor of 2 is calculated as follows
(see figure 3):
Webbing length mutiplied by 2 (= fall travel)
+ 1.75m opening of energy absorber (= braking travel)
+ 1 m safety distance

The anchorage point must always be above the user (=fall factor of between 0 and 1).
During Automatic Retracting Fall Arrester use at a factor of 1 the free clearance under the
user must be at least 2.30m.
Swinging risk: When the fall arrester enters into action, to avoid injury due to impact, for
instance against the building, whenever possible choose an anchorage point located verti-
cally above the user (see figure 4).

Webbing with tested edge-strength:
The edge-tearing strength of the retractable webbing with an energy absorber has been
tested.
This Miller® by Honeywell logo confirms approval for horizontal applications with an edge
radius of less than 0.5 mm without burrs, bearing in mind that the angle of the edge must be
at least 90° (see figure 5).

similar to those of rolled steel profiles, wooden beams or rounded and lined handrails ...
The anchorage point must not be lower than the level of the floor where the user is located.
