Disposal
Before beginning installation procedures,
these installation and operating instruc-
tions should be studied carefully. The in-
stallation and operation should also be in
accordance with local regulations and ac-
cepted codes of good practice.
1. Application
The MTP 75 (Motor Temperature Protector 75°C) is
used for monitoring the temperature in submersible
motors with built-in temperature transmitter.
All GRUNDFOS MS 6000 and certain MS 4000 mo-
tors incorporate a temperature transmitter as stand-
ard.
Together with the motor protection, the MTP 75 also
protects the motor winding against overtemperature.
It cannot replace the thermal relay as the current rise
during rotor locking or phase failure is developed
faster than the resulting temperature rise.
The MTP 75 does not require any additional cables
in the borehole.
The MTP 75 cannot be used to protect frequency
converter controlled motors.
2. Technical data
Supply voltage:
Two variants:
• 1 x 200-240 V ±10%.
• 1 x 380-415 V ±10%.
For voltages above 415 V, a
transformer or a similar unit
must be installed.
Frequency:
50/60 Hz.
Control voltage:
Maximum contact load:
415 V/3A.
Enclosure class:
IP 20.
Ambient
temperature:
–20°C to +60°C.
Relative air
humidity:
Maximum 99%.

3. Installation
Page
The MTP 75 can be mounted in any control cabinet
with thermal relay and contactor. The thermal relay
4
is required for protection against rotor locking or
4
phase failure as the temperature rises much faster
4
than the MTP 75 can register.
4
Fit the socket supplied with the MTP 75 to a DIN rail.
5
Build the MTP 75 into the motor contact circuit so
5
that the motor stops when the MTP 75 is activated,
5
see fig. 1, page 13.
6
If the MTP 75 is installed together with a soft starter,
6
this must be supplied with bypass switches, see
fig. 2, page 14.
The soft starter ramp start/stop time must not exceed
3 seconds.
Plug the MTP 75 into the socket.
3.1 Electrical connection
The electrical connection should be carried out by an
authorized electrician in accordance with local regu-
lations.
The signal transformer and capacitor must be in-
stalled as shown in fig 1. If the signal transformer is
not installed correctly, the signal may be instable or
miss completely.
The cable from the signal transformer must not be
shortened or lengthened.
Connect the electricity supply to the MTP 75, see
fig. 1, pos. B.
• 1 x 200-240 V: To be connected to the L1 and N
leads.
• 1 x 380-415 V: To be connected to the L1 and L3
leads.
Note: The distance to "foreign" signal transformers
and motor cables must be at least 50 mm to reduce
the risk of magnetic signal transfer from one cable to
the other.
When cables are laid in parallel over long distances,
the cables must be laid at intervals of min. 20 cm.
Two or more MTP 75 in one control cabinet:
Each control circuit with an MTP 75 must be carried
out as shown in fig. 1 and is to be considered an in-
dependent installation consisting of
• MTP 75
• signal transformer
• capacitor and motor relay.
