PoRtEd IMPULSE P6
tRUnk BoX SUBwooFER
Congratulations on your purchase of this EMPHASER Impulse P6
ported trunk box subwoofer.
Before you place this subwoofer in your trunk and its first operation,
please read the entire manual carefully, to obtain best possible
sound quality.
The P6 trunk box subwoofers follow the ported enclosure tuning
principle, for details on the construction see below:

BOX PLACEMENT INFO
The Impulse P6 trunk box subwoofer models are acoustically
optimized for deployment in the trunk compartment of hatchback
or sedan type cars.
The EMPHASER ESP-T2 terminal with removable connector plug
provides quick connection of your trunk box subwoofer, as well as
quick removal if the trunk needs to be free for transportation of other
goods. Accidental reverse polarity connection is prevented by the
shape of the plug and the receptor cup.
CONNECTION TO THE AMP
The P6 subwoofer models feature a 2 x 4 ohms double voice-coil,
that allow for two variants of connection to the subwoofer: Normal
2-channel stereo hook-up or, in case of high performance mono
amplifiers, a 2 ohms parallel connection of both voice-coils.
Remove the top part of the speaker plug. Connect the stripped
speaker wire(s) of the amp driving this sub to the terminal binding
posts located inside the main connector housing. Do not remount
the top part of the plug as of yet, because the correct electrical
connection polarity of the speaker cable must be determined by a
short listening test.

If you care for illumination of your P6 sub connect the 12V feed
from the trunk illumination of your vehicle to the posts indicated with
"12V" inside the connector.
Attention: For safety and legal reasons, it might be prohibited using
the box illumination while the car is driven on the road. Different
restrictions may apply depending on country. To comply with natio-
nal laws, you should not connect the P6 box illumination to anything
else than the interior light of your vehicles trunk compartment.
ADJUSTMENT OF CROSSOVER
The P6 ported subwoofers need a lowpass filtered signal to per-
form best. Select the low-pass crossover function of the amplifier
channel(s) intended to drive your sub, or activate the DSP cross-
over of your headunit, driving the sub line-out. Usually a filter slope
steepness of 12dB/oct to 24dB/oct is common and will provide
good results.
Phase optimized connection polarity: The correct polarity for your
subwoofer needs to be empirically determined.
This is done by connecting the speaker wire(s) to the plug of the
subwoofer either correctly "in-phase" or with reversed connection
polarity – while the resulting sound needs to be observed sitting on
the drivers seat with the hatch of the trunk closed. You can further
improve the phase match of the sub to the satellite speakers, if your
amp offers a phase shift control or if the headunit deploys a DSP
based time alignment.
Note: If you alter the crossover slope steepness, the polarity check
for best phase match must be redone again.
Once you have found the correct or better sounding connection
polarity of your sub, you can re-mount the top of the terminal plug.
Attention: Avoid at all cost, accidental re- or inverse connection
of one voice-coil. The power fed into both coil windings will fully
cancel in the air gap of the magnet, i.e. the woofer cone does not
move – but the voice coil will get overloaded and burn up in a
short time!
