Annex I
Recommendations for use in wind
The wind resistance classes are not very helpful in a practical sense. That is why we have listed from which wind
speeds the products must be retracted:
Awning
Overhang / arm
length [mm]
NGM 20
BGM 6
CGM 5
KGM 5
KGM 6
Table 1 max. permissible wind force in km/h (excluding wind-resistant products
If an appropriate tool is not available to estimate the wind force, the Beaufort scale can be used to classify the wind
force. This is based off the observed effect of the wind rather than exact measurements:
Beaufort wind force
(mean wind speed)
Force 0 (< 2 km/h)
Force 1 (< 7.5 km/h)
Force 2 (< 13 km/h)
Force 3 (< 20 km/h)
Force 4 (< 30 km/h)
Force 5 (< 41 km/h)
Force 6 (< 48 km/h)
Force 7 (< 62 km/h)
Force 8 (< 73 km/h)
Force 9 (< 87 km/h)
Table 2 Beaufort wind force and effects on land
Table 1 is only valid if the following criteria apply:
Mounting, fixing, use and operation must be carried out in accordance with the mounting and operating instructions.
The dimensions of the products comply with the technical specifications.

Width (mm)
effect
(on land)
calm, smoke rises vertically
Smoke drifts slightly, wind vanes do
not move
Leaves rustle, wind can be felt on face
Leaves and small twigs moving, light flags
extended
Twigs move, loose paper lifts from the ground
Bigger twigs and trees move, wind
can be clearly heard
Large branches in motion, umbrellas used with difficulty; whistling heard in
telegraph wires
Resistance felt walking against wind, whole trees moving
Twigs breaking off trees, generally impedes progress
Branches breaking off trees, slight structural damage occurs (tiles or smoke
hoods blow off roofs)
