Important Safety
Instructions

Batteries

WARNING
Risk of explosion. Gases produced by a battery are
highly explosive.
• Wear safety goggles and protective clothing, user
and bystander.
• Use tester in an area having at least four air changes
per hour.
• Read, understand and follow all instructions for
tester, battery, vehicle and any equipment used near
battery.
• Do not smoke, strike a match, place metal tools on
battery or cause a spark in vicinity of battery.
• Fill battery cells to level specified by battery
manufacturer using distilled water.
• Do not remove battery cell caps when using tester.
• Be sure ignition is OFF, headlights and other
accessories are OFF and vehicle doors are closed
before disconnecting battery cables. This also helps
prevent damage to on-board computer systems.
• Always disconnect battery ground connections
before servicing electrical system components.
• Clean terminals before using tester. During cleaning,
keep airborne corrosion from eyes, nose and mouth.
Use baking soda and water to neutralize acid and
help eliminate airborne corrosion.
• Do not expose tester to rain, snow or wet conditions.
• Do not allow battery gases or acid to contact tester
housing.
• Never charge, test, or apply a load to a frozen
battery. Thaw battery and warm to room
• temperature before proceeding. Charging or
attempting to test or load a frozen battery, can cause
the battery to explode and result in injury.
• Be sure all test leads are connected as instructed
before proceeding with a test.
• Make sure both load lead clamps make tight
connections with battery terminals.
• Never remove the load leads during any test.
• Use only the RESET or NO keys on the tester to stop
the test.
• On marine applications with inboard or inboard/
outboard engines, operate bilge blower for at least
four minutes before starting engine or making test
lead connections.
Battery explosion can cause injury.

Acid Burns

WARNING
Battery acid is a highly corrosive sulfuric acid.
• Wear safety goggles and protective gloves, user and
bystander. Everyday eyeglasses only have impact
resistant lenses, they are NOT safety glasses.
• Make sure someone can hear you or is close enough
to provide aid when working near a battery.
• Have plenty of fresh water and soap nearby. If
battery acid contacts skin, clothing, or eyes, flush
exposed area with soap and water for 10 minutes.
• Seek medical help.
• Do not touch eyes while working near battery.
Battery acid can burn eyes and skin.

General

WARNING
Risk of fire.
• Wear safety goggles and protective gloves, user and
bystander. Everyday eyeglasses only have impact
resistant lenses, they are NOT safety glasses.
• Do not position head directly over or in front of
carburetor or throttle body. Engine backfire can
occur when air cleaner is out of normal position.
• Keep a dry chemical (Class B) fire extinguisher rated
for gasoline, chemical electrical fires in the work
area.
Fire can cause death or serious injury.
WARNING
Risk of burns.
Batteries can produce a short-circuit current high
enough to weld jewelry to metal. Remove jewelry
such as rings, bracelets and watches before working
near batteries.
Short circuits can cause injury.
