12.4 Use of ND filter
Darkfield observation requires a huge amount of light for an
optimal observation.
In order not to be dazzled when switching from DF to BF
position, a neutral density filter is connected to the BF/DF
selector. (Fig. 40)
1. The filter is automatically engaged/disengaged simply mov-
ing the BF/DF selector.
2. When the selector is in "BF" position the ND filter is engaged.
3. When the selector is in "DF" position the ND filter is disen-
gaged.
User can disable this connection by unscrewing the fixing
screw on the left side.
4. Using the provided Allen wrench fully unscrew the screw
placed in the "LOCK" hole ①. (Fig. 41)
5. After this operation, the ND filter and the BF/DF selector are
disconnected and can be operated separately.
12.5 Changing the stage height
In case of thick metallurgical specimen it could happen that
the total stroke of the coarse focus knob cannot compensate
the height of the specimen. This makes the focusing of the
specimen impossible.
In this case the stage can be lowered to accept thick speci-
mens allowing a correct focusing range.
1. Loosen the fixing screw ② and lower the stage to the desired
position. (Fig. 42)
2. Lock the fixing screw.
3. Start working normally.
12.6 Centering the field diaphragm (FS)
1. Move the selector on the reflected light illuminator in the
position "BF". (Fig. 39)
2. Place the specimen on the stage, insert 10x objective into the
light path and focus.
3. Completely pull out the field diaphragm selector ③ to fully
close the diaphragm. (Fig. 43)
4. Using the provided Allen wrench use the two centering
screws ④ to bring the bright spot in the centre of the field of
view.
5. Gradually open the diaphragm. The condenser is centred
when the diaphragm image is symmetrical to the field of
view. (Fig. 44)
6. In normal use, open the diaphragm until it circumscribes the
field of view.
