Before you anticipate a calculator failure ...
Whenever an error occurs during the calculation or when the calculation results are not
what you expected, perform the following steps. If one step does not resolve the issue,
go to the next step.
Be aware that you should make special copies of important data before performing
these steps.
1. Check the calculated expression to make sure that it does not contain any errors.
2. Make sure you are using the correct mode for the type of calculation you are
trying to perform.
3. If the above steps do not resolve your issue, press the ON key. This runs a
procedure on the calculator that checks if the calculation functions are working
correctly. If the calculator detects any abnormalities, it automatically initializes
the calculation mode and clears the contents of the memory. For details on
initializing the settings, see "Calculator Configuration Settings".
4. Initialize all modes and settings by performing the following operation:
SHIFT + 9 (CLR) + 1 (Setup) = (Yes)

Battery replacement

A low battery results in a dimmed display even when the contrast is adjusted, or a
number error that appears on the display immediately after you turn on the calculator.
If this happens, replace the battery with a new one.
Important: Removing the battery clears all the contents of the calculator's memory.
1. Press SHIFT + AC (OFF) to turn off the calculator. To prevent the calculator from
turning on accidentally, place the hard cover on the front.
2. Remove the cover as shown in the figure, and replace the battery, making sure
that the plus and minus sides are in the correct position.
3. Place the cover again.
4. Initialize the calculator: ON + SHIFT + 9 (CLR) + 0 (ALL) = (Yes).
