Unpacking and packing

The 7SJ46 is packaged at the factory to meet the requirements
of IEC 60255–21.
Unpacking and packing must be done with normal care, without
using force, and with appropriate tools. Visually check the device
immediately upon arrival for correct mechanical condition.
The transport packing can be reused in the same manner for
further shipment. Storage packaging alone, for individual
devices, is not sufficient for shipping. If other packaging is used,
shock requirements under IEC 60255–21–1 Class 2 and
IEC 60255–21–2 Class 1 must be met.
Before commissioning the device for the first time, it must have
been in the final operating area for at least 2 hours. This time
allows the device to attain temperature equilibrium, and
dampness and condensation to be avoided.

Storage

If the device is not to be used immediately, it can be stored after
completing the initial inspections. Please observe the following:

easy devices and associated assemblies should be
stored in a dry and clean place, with a maximum temperature
range of –25 °C to +55 °C (–13 °F to +131 °F) (see also Section
2.11).

To avoid premature aging of the electrolyte capacitors in the
device, a temperature range of +10 °C to +35 °C (+50 °F to
+95 °F) is recommended for storage.
In the non-condensation proof version, the relative humidity must
not lead to condensation or ice buildup.
After extended storage, the device should be operated,
approximately every two years, for one or two days to regenerate
the electrolytic capacitors in the device. This procedure should
also be done prior to the device being put in-service. Under
extreme climatic conditions (tropics), preheating is achieved at
the same time, and condensation is prevented.

Applications

protection relay that can be used
as a selective short-circuit protection in electrical supply
networks with single-end infeed.
as a back-up protection in differential protection installations.
For line protection, the device can be used in networks with
earthed, low resistance earthed, isolated or compensated neutral
point.
The device can also be used as a back-up protection for
transformers.
