2.2
PREPARING THE JIB BASE (8530869): Counterweight Base model 8530870 ships already filled. Counterweight Base
model 8530869, however, will need to be prepared before use. See Figure 2 for reference. To prepare the Jib Base:
1.
Fill the Counterweight Box with 0.69 yd
the box. No more than 0.75 in. (19 mm) of unfilled box is allowed. Once filled, allow time for the concrete to cure.
2.
Attach the filled Counterweight Box to the Counterweight Base. Use the Fork Pockets (C) on the Counterweight Box
to set it in place on the Base. Attach both Turnbuckles (A) to the Tie-Down Rings (B) located on the Base and tension
the Turnbuckle until the Counterweight Box is fastened tight to the Base.
2.3
INSTALLING THE LIFTING KIT (8530914): The Counterweight Base Lifting Kit (sold separately) may be used to
transport the Counterweight Box instead of using the Fork Pockets located on the Box. See Figure 3 for reference. To
install the Lifting Kit:
;
Do not use the 8530914 Lifting Rings to transport the Counterweight Base after the Counterweight Box has been
tied down to the Base. The Lifting Rings are only for transportation of the Counterweight Box by itself.
1.
Remove the two Bolts (A) from the top of the Counterweight Box.
2.
Fasten the two Lifting Rings (B) into the tapped holes of the Counterweight Box, torquing each Lifting Ring to
100 ft-lb. (136 N-m).
3.
Attach the Connectors (C) of a chain or web strap to the Lifting Rings to lift the Counterweight Box.
2.4
INSTALLING THE JIB BOOM: After the Counterweight Base has been prepared, it may be used as a mounting point for
M100 Modular Jib Systems. See Figure 4 for reference. To install, place the M100 Jib Boom (A) onto the Jib Mount (B) of
the Counterweight Base. Ensure that the Locking Pin (C) is facing away from the Counterweight Box and that is placed
between the Rotation Stops (D). After placement, the Locking Pin of the Jib Boom may be either engaged or disengaged,
thus restricting or enabling system rotation.
2.5
TRANSPORTING THE SYSTEM: The Counterweight Base may be transported using the Fork Pockets (A) located at the
bottom of the Base (see Figure 5). The Counterweight Box may be attached to the Counterweight Base during transport
or it may be moved separately. Figure 6 displays the location of the center of gravity for the system when paired with the
largest M100 Jib Boom (8530877), both with (X) and without (Y) the Counterweight Box. The center of gravity for the
Counterweight Box alone (Z) is also displayed. The center of gravity will move closer to the back of the Counterweight
Base when smaller M100 Jib Booms are used.
;
Engage the Locking Pin (C) of the Jib Boom to prevent rotation during transport. See Figure 4 for reference.
;
Do not transport at speeds exceeding 5 mph (8 kph).
;
When transporting the system, be aware of overhead obstructions and electrical hazards which may result in
serious injury or death.
2.6
INSTALLING THE WHEEL KIT (8530908): The Counterweight Base Wheel Kit (sold separately) may be installed onto
the Counterweight Base as an alternative means of transporting the Counterweight Base. See Figure 11 for reference. To
install the Wheel Kit, fasten the four Wheel Assemblies (A) onto the Mounting Plates (B) of the Counterweight Base using
the provided 1/2 in. (13 mm) fasteners. Torque fasteners to 60 ft-lb (81 N-m).
;
The M100 Jib System cannot be used while the wheels of the Wheel Kit are contacting the ground.
3.0
USE:
3.1
BEFORE EACH USE: Verify that your work area and Fall Protection system meet all criteria defined in these instructions.
Verify that a formal Rescue Plan is in place. Inspect the system per the 'User' inspection points defined in the "Inspection
and Maintenance Log" (Table 2). If inspection reveals an unsafe or defective condition, or if there is any doubt about its
condition for safe use, remove the system from service immediately. Clearly tag the system "DO NOT USE". See Section 4
for more information.
3.2
COUNTERWEIGHT REQUIRED: The Counterweight Box must be installed onto the Counterweight Base before using the
M100 Jib System. See Figure 7 for reference.
3.3
LEVELING THE JIB BASE: The jacks included with the Counterweight Base must be lowered and contacting the ground
when using the M100 Jib System. See Figure 8 for reference. To level the system:
1.
Turn the handle of the Jack clockwise until it comes into contact with the ground. Do this for each Adjustable Foot of
the Base. Do not raise the Counterweight Base more than 4.0 in. (10.2 cm) above the ground.
2.
After setting each Adjustable Foot, verify that the Counterweight Base is level using the Level Indicators at the front
of the Base. The Base must be within plus or minus 1° from vertical in both directions of the base.
3.4
USING THE WHEEL KIT (8530908): After installing the Wheel Kit, it may be used to transport the Jib System. See
Section 2.6 for more information.
1.
Turn the handle of the Wheel Jack clockwise until it comes into contact with the ground and raises the Base off the
ground. Do not raise the Base more than 2.0 in. (51 mm) off the ground.
2.
Use the Leveling Indicators located on the Counterweight Base to verify whether the Base is level. The Base may be
transported after the Base has been determined to be level. See Figure 8.2 for reference.
;
Do not transport the system on uneven ground. A sloped or uneven surface could cause a loss of control.
3.5
SAFE WORKING RADIUS: The user must stay within the Safe Working Radius (A) of the Jib Boom and must not work
past the end of the rail (B) or behind the Counterweight Base (B). The user must remain as directly below the Connection
(0.53 m
) of concrete (A) with a rating of 4,000 psi (30 MPa) to the top of
