Safety Instructions
The warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by failure to observe
these safety instructions.
We do not assume any liability for any consequential damage!
We do not accept liability for damage to property or personal injury caused by
improper handling or non-compliance with the safety instructions. The
warranty will be void in such cases.
• The unauthorised conversion and/or modification of the product is inadmissible
because of safety and approval reasons (CE). Never dismantle the product!
• This product is not a toy, and should be kept out of the reach of children.
• Only use in dry indoor locations. The product must not get damp or wet.
• Do not expose the product to extreme temperatures (< 0°C or > +40°C), direct
bright sunlight, strong vibrations, high humidity or strong mechanical stress.
• Do not leave packaging material lying around carelessly. It may become
dangerous playing material for children.
• Handle the product with care, it can be damaged by impacts, blows, or accidental
drops, even from a low height.
Connection
• Connect the USB hub, via the USB cable, to a free USB2.0 port on your computer (the
computer does not need to be switched off).
If you do not have a USB2.0 interface on your computer (e.g. on the motherboard or
on a USB2.0 expansion card), you can also connect the USB hub to a USB1.1 port.
However, the devices connected to the USB hub (no matter whether USB2.0 or
USB.1.1) will only work at the normal USB1.1 speed!
• Windows detects the new hardware and installs the drivers automatically (these are included
in Windows).
Use of an External Power Unit
When used without a power supply each USB hub works in the so called "Bus-Powered-Mode".
This means that the current (up to 500 mA), supplied from the computer via the USB, is dis-
tributed to the 4 ports.
This is sufficient for most mice or keyboards, but many other devices may not work
correctly (e.g. card readers with CompactFlash hard disk, external 2.5" hard disks,
many USB cameras etc.).
When the USB hub is powered via the mains unit (this operating mode is described as "Self-
Powered-Mode"), each USB port on the hub provides a higher current (500 mA max.).
If you find that one of the devices connected to the USB hub is not working correctly
or that it is not recognized, but, however, it functions without problem when
connected to a USB connection on the PC (for example, an external 2.5" hard disk),
then the power supply is insufficient.
The USB hub has a low voltage connection (3.5/1.3 mm, the internal contact is
plus/+), to which an external power supply (not supplied) may be connected.
The power supply needs to have a stabilized output voltage of +5 Vdc, and should
supply a current of ca. 2A.
Wall Mounting
www.conrad.com
There is a hole at the bottom of the USB hub, using which the USB hub can be mounted on to a
wall (e.g. by hanging on a screw).

Tips & Notes
°
• The USB2.0 hub is USB1.1 compatible. This means that normal USB1.1 devices can be used
with no problems on the USB2.0 Hub. However, this will not speed up the USB1.1 devices!
Of course, the USB2.0 hub can also be used with a USB1.1 connection, e.g. where your
computer does not have a USB2.0 interface.
Neither in this case is an increase in the data transmission speed possible.
To take advantage of the high speed (theoretically 480 MBit/s, i.e. 60 MByte/s), all devices
have to support USB2.0: The USB device itself (e.g. an external DVD writer), the USB hub and
the USB controller inside the PC.
The theoretical maximum speed of 480 MBit/s is not achieved in practice. The reasons are
protocol information, simultaneous operation of several USB devices or the speed limit of the
connected device supplying or receiving the data.
• Correct USB2.0 operation does not require a special "USB2.0 cable". Conventional USB
cables are sufficient, but they do need to be shielded.
If transmission problems occur during the use of USB2.0 devices, you can try to use a USB
cable which has been tested for USB2.0 use ("USB2.0-certified").
• Normally, USB operation is not possible in DOS or in the protected mode of Windows.
Nevertheless, depending on the computer or BIOS /Setup settings, it possible to use a USB
keyboard and a USB mouse. It is necessary, however, to connect them directly to the
computer's USB interface, i.e. not to the USB Hub.
• USB devices can be plugged in and unplugged while the PC is in use. This means that you do
not have to switch off your computer, when you want to plug in or unplug devices (with other
interfaces this can cause damage, e.g. if you connect or disconnect a PS/2 mouse during
operation).
If data transfers are in progress on the USB port, e.g. if an external disk is inputting data to the
computer, and you unplug the USB plug, Windows might crash and other data may also be
damaged!
For some USB2.0 devices (e.g. USB hard disk), Windows ME/XP/Vista displays an icon with
an arrow in the menu bar. You can "separate" the USB device from the computer using this
function, and thus instruct the computer to close open files. Afterwards, the USB device can
be unplugged safely.
