Inductive Distance Sensor
BAW M18MM-UAZ50B-BP00-507
Safety Advisory
This analog sensor is not intended for use
where personal safety depends on proper
device function (not a safety component
per the EU Machine Directive). Read the
user's guide carefully before startup.
Operating mode
In operating mode (C-input is connected to GND) the
sensor has the switching points sr1, sr2 and sr3.
This values result from the teach points TP1, TP2 and
TP3 according to the equations:
sr1 = TP1 – 0.3 mm
sr2 = TP2 + 0.1 mm
sr3 = TP3 + 0.1 mm
The values are saved during teach-in programming. The
tolerance of the offsets are lower than 4% of the upper
limit of the linearity range.
Connections

Programming switching outputs in Teach-in
There are two ways to use teach-in programming
a) Use BES 516-4 programmer.
b) Connect the Control input (C) through a switch to +.
As a programming aid you may connect an external
display (e.g. LED) to each of the outputs. These
indicators will then behave just like the outputs. The
maximum permissible output load current should not
be exceeded. See the description below for
programming instructions.
Caution! Check for proper wiring. The load circuits must
not be short circuited so that the sensor can be
programmmed.

1 Install the sensor in the machine.
2 Way a): Connect the sensor to the programmer.
Way b): Connect the Control input (C) through a
switch to + (Fig. 1).
3 Turn on programming mode: Hold the Prog button of
the programmer or the switch button down for at least
5 seconds. The first output is selected and cycles.
4 Bring the object to be detected (machine member etc.)
to the first teach point TP1 within the sensor's linearity
range (Fig. 2).
5 Save switching point sr1: Hold the Prog button of the
programmer or the switch button down for
2-4 seconds. The first output switches on, switching
point sr1 is saved. When the Prog button of the
programmer or the switch button is released the next
switching output is automatically selected and cycles.
6 Program switching points sr2 and sr3 as described
under 4. and 5. above. After programming of sr3 the
sensor returns to the operating mode automatically.
If one of the outputs is not to be programmed, this
action can be omitted by holding down the Prog button
of the programmer or the switch button for max. 2
seconds. Thereby you get to the programming of the
next switching point or to the operating mode without
changing the previous switching point.
After programming is complete make the user-side
electrical connections. In operating mode a fixed
connection between the C input and ground is
recommended.
