Where to Locate
1. The carbon monoxide (CO) alarm should be located outside each separate
sleeping area in the immediate vicinity of the bedrooms. To ensure the most
effective use of the CO alarm, it should be fitted at least 1.5 meters (5 feet)
above floor level. It should be at least 15 cm (6 inches) away from the ceiling
and 30 cm (12 inches) away from any adjacent wall. Make sure that there is no
obstacle between the alarm and any potential CO source (e.g. gas boiler or
gas-fuelled heating appliance).
2. For the best protection, a carbon monoxide alarm should be installed in every room
and hallway in your home, apart from the locations listed in the next sections.
