Operation
1. Connect the USB hub via its USB cable to a free USB 3.0 port on your computer. The computer does
not need to be turned off.
If your computer has no USB 3.0 port (i.e. on the mainboard or a USB 3.0 card), you can also
connect the product to a USB 2.0/1.1 port. Devices connected to the USB hub (both USB 2.0 or
USB 1.1) will work at normal USB 2.0/1.1 speeds.
The USB hub works in the so-called "bus powered mode". This means that the power via the
computer to the USB hub is supplied to all four ports (according to the USB 3.0 standard 900 mA,
according to the USB 2.0 standard 500 mA).
This is sufficient for most mice or keyboards; however, many other devices may no longer function
correctly (for example, external 6.35 cm / 2.5" hard drives, USB cameras, etc.).
2. Windows will recognize the new hardware and install the drivers automatically.
3. Connect your USB devices to the USB hub.
Tips and notes
• The USB 3.0 hub is USB 2.0/1.1 compatible. This means that common USB 2.0/1.1 devices can be
operated via the USB 3.0 hub without any problems. However, the USB 2.0/1.1 devices will not work any
faster!
Version 11/13
• To use the USB 3.0 hub at its full speed, all devices used must support USB 3.0: The USB device itself (i.e.
external hard drive), the USB hub and your computer's USB controller.
• In practice, the theoretical maximum speed of USB 3.0 (or USB 2.0/1.1) is not reached. The reason for this
may include protocol information, simultaneous use of several USB devices or speed restrictions imposed
by the connected USB device or your USB controller/mainboard.
• In DOS or in Windows Safe Mode, USB operation is not possible. Depending on your computer or BIOS
and setup settings, you may nevertheless be able to use a USB keyboard or USB mouse. It may be
necessary to connect these devices directly to your computer's USB ports and not to a USB hub.
• USB devices can be connected and disconnected during use. Your computer need not be turned off to
connect or disconnect devices.
• If data transfer is taking place via the USB port – i.e. if an external hard drive is transferring data to your
computer – and you disconnect the USB plug, your operating system may crash. This may also result in
data lost or damage to the file system of your external hard drive.
• In Windows® XP, Vista™, 7, 8 an arrow may appear in the menu bar when some devices are connected
(i.e. a USB hard drive). This function allows you to "disconnect" the USB device from your computer. After
that, you can unplug the USB device without any danger.
• Always use appropriate USB 3.0 cables to connect USB 3.0 devices. Please note that the longer the
USB 3.0 cable, the slower the data transfer rate may be.
Maintenance and cleaning
Never use any aggressive cleaning agents, rubbing alcohol or other chemical solutions
to clean the device, as they may attack the product housing and even impair its
functioning.
• Disconnect the USB hub from your computer before cleaning.
• Never submerge the USB hub in water.
• Repairs and maintenance work may only be carried out by a professional or in a specialist workshop.
There are no components inside the product that you need to maintenance, never open/dismantle the
product.
• To clean, use a dry, soft and clean cloth. Do not apply too much pressure to the housing to prevent
scratches.
• Dust can be easily removed using a long-haired, soft and clean brush and a vacuum cleaner.
