Installation
If you do not have thorough knowledge on the installation of this product, have the installation
carried out by a professional or in a specialist shop!
Incorrect installation of the product will cause damage to the product, your computer and all
Version 03/14
connected devices.
Turn off the computer or external drive housing, that you wish to install the card to, including all
connected devices. Disconnect all devices from the power supply by unplugging them. Simply
turning off the devices using the on/off switch does not mean a device is voltage-free!
• Open the PC or drive housing.
Use the provided short slot bracket (7) for mounting inside a low profile PC case. Remove the long slot
bracket (6) from the card and attach the short one.
• Mount the card to a suitable spot. A board strip (4) is present for installing the card in your computer case.
It can be inserted into a PCIe or PCI slot. The board strip does not have any electrical contacts, its sole
purpose is to mount the card inside your PC.
• Connect the power connection (3) to the power supply unit of the PC or disk housing, then connect the
SATA sockets ("D-SATA0" to "D-SATA4") to the hard disks and (if desired) the pin strips (5) to the LEDs.
The LEDs flash during read/write access. This allows the user to monitor all 5 connections to
the hard disks as well as the connection to the SATA controller/mainboard.
• Now connect the SATA connection (2) to the SATA controller/mainboard.
Important!
Only use a SATA controller that supports the port multiplier function. Operation is otherwise not
possible, the hard disks connected to the 5 port multiplier card are not recognized.
• Connect all cables securely so they do not slip from the connections. Fasten the cables so they do not
come into contact with the computer fan (e.g. cable ties).
• Now close your computer or disk housing.
Driver installation, operation
You do not need to install any drivers for the multiplier card.
The SATA controller you use must support the port multiplier function or no hard disks will be recognized.
Software included with your SATA controller usually needs to be installed for this operating mode.
Only once the software has been installed you can use, partition and format the hard disks connected to the
multiplier card; Windows computer management cannot show them before installation.
Read the user manual that came with your SATA controller/motherboard on how to use hard disks with a
multiplier card.
Tips & notes
• Never disconnect the cable between the SATA controller and the multiplier card during operation.
Unplugging the SATA port's cable while data transfer is active (e.g. data is being read/written or while files
are still opened) may result in loss of data.
• Read the user manual that came with your SATA controller/motherboard for more information on using
the port multiplier function. Software included with your SATA controller usually needs to be installed for
this operating mode.
