Standard Battery
Warning Instructions and Safety Guidelines for Lead-Acid Batteries with Liquid Electrolyte.
Follow the instructions on the battery, in the
instructions for use and in the vehicle operating
manual.
Wear eye protection during all work on the
battery.
Keep children away from acid and batteries.
Risk of explosion:
- Highly explosive electrolytic gas is generated
when charging batteries. It is therefore essential
that you pay attention to the following point.
Fire, sparks, naked lights and smoking are
prohibited:
- Avoid sparks when dealing with cables and
electrical equipment as well as sparks caused by
electrostatic discharge.
- Avoid short circuits.
Risk of chemical burns:
Battery acid is highly caustic, therefore:
- Wear protective gloves and eye protection.
- Do not tilt the battery as acid can leak from the
degassing vent.
1. Important Information
It is imperative that you follow the instructions in this manual, as failure to do so can cause injury due to acid as well as damage to the battery.
Filled JMT standard batteries must not be tilted under any circumstances. This leads to acid leakage and can cause serious burns.
After the initial filling (Section 2), to achieve full performance the battery must be fully charged for 3 - 5 hours (Section 4).
2. Putting into Service
When working on the battery, it is imperative to pay attention to the warnings and safety instructions and to ensure adequate ventilation, as
explosive gases may be generated.
2.1 Place the battery on an even surface and
remove all sealing plugs.
2.3 Unpack the acid container, shorten the tip of the
cap by approximately 2 mm and then attach the
supplied hose.
(The battery must only be filled with acid when in
the unassembled state.)
2.5 Allow the battery to stand for one hour with the
sealing plugs open.
2.7 Close the upper seals.
3. General Instructions
3.1 Installation & Removal
- Before installing and removing the battery, switch off all electrical devices to avoid possible sparking.
- When disconnecting the electrical connections, disconnect the earth cable (-) first. When connecting the electrical connections, make this
connection last. Acting in this way prevents the risk of a short circuit when using tools.
- Attach the battery securely to the motorcycle.
- Attach the battery degassing hose to the central degassing vent on the side of the battery. Make absolutely sure that the hose is kink-free
and the release of gases is not impeded.
3.2 Storage
- The onboard electronics will drain the battery if the terminals are not disconnected. This can cause deep discharge and may destroy the
battery. If the vehicle is out of service for more than one month, the battery must be disconnected from all loads.
- Furthermore, all batteries self-discharge unless they are charged and discharged on a regular basis. For this reason, out-of-service
batteries must be charged every 3 months or permanently connected to a suitable charging device. For instructions on charging please
see Section 4.
- Filled batteries must be fully charged before storage (Section 4).
- Store batteries in a cool, dry place and protect against direct sunlight.
3.3 Maintenance
- Check the acid level regularly and top up with distilled water if necessary. (Do not top up with acid after putting the battery into service for
the first time.)
- Keep the terminals and battery surface clean, firmly tighten the terminals and lightly grease with terminal grease. Monitor the charging
status of the battery using voltage control and recharge if necessary (Section 4).
4. Charging the Battery
- Remove the battery from the vehicle before charging (Section 3.1).
- Remove all sealing plugs and ensure good ventilation.
- Only use suitable DC chargers. Please follow the instructions of the charging device manufacturer.
We recommend the following chargers for 6 V to 12 V batteries:
=> JMP 800 6 V (charging current: 0.8 A)
=> JMP 800 12 V (charging current: 0.8 A)
=> JMP 4000 12 V (charging current: 1 A/4 A)
The chargers are available from specialist dealers or online at www.motomike.eu.
- Do not switch on the charger until you have connected it to the battery. After charging, first switch off the charger and then disconnect the
battery from the charger.
- Charging current recommendation: 10% of the rated capacity in amps. The battery is fully charged if the charging voltage fails to increase
within 2 hours.
- If the battery gets very hot during the charging process, stop charging and allow the battery to cool down before continuing the charging
process.
- After charging is complete, the battery should be allowed to rest for approximately 2 hours. Now, firmly tighten the sealing plugs and wipe off
any acid splashes with a damp, anti-static cloth.
5. Product Quality
We provide JMT quality and thereby guarantee the proper processing of faultless materials, technically flawless execution and compliance with
relevant JIS / EN standards with regard to dimensions and performance.
If, despite strict manufacturing controls, a fault should occur for which we are responsible, we provide a guarantee for material and manufac-
turing defects occurring within the applicable warranty period (current statutory period 24 months). The warranty period begins on receipt of
goods by the customer. A prerequisite for any warranty claim is that the defect was not caused by improper use or overuse.
To process a warranty claim, please contact the dealer from whom you purchased the battery in question.
6. Information concerning the German Batteries Act (Deposit and Return)
6.1 According to Article 11 of the German Batteries Act (BattG), consumers are required by law to return used starter batteries.
6.2 Starter batteries can be returned to one of the seller's outlets at no charge (due to the Ordinance on Dangerous Goods they must not be
sent in the mail).
6.3 Starter batteries contain lead and therefore may not be disposed of with household waste. For this purpose, they bear the symbol of a
crossed-out waste bin with the supplement "Pb" (lead).
6.4 According to Article 10 of the German Batteries Act (BattG), when purchasing a new starter battery without returning a used battery, consu-
mers must place a deposit of € 7.50. This is refunded upon returning a used starter battery.

First Aid:
- In case of acid splashes in the eye, rinse immedi-
ately with clean water for several minutes. Then
consult a doctor without delay.
- In case of acid spills on the skin or clothing, neu-
tralise immediately with acid neutraliser or soapy
water and rinse with plenty of water.
- If acid is consumed, consult a doctor immediately.
Warning Instructions:
- Do not expose batteries to direct daylight without
protection.
- Discharged batteries can freeze; therefore protect
against frost during storage.
Disposal:
- Hand in used batteries at a collection point.
- During transportation, make sure that the filled
battery is secure against tilting and prevent a
short circuit on the positive terminal by means of
a protective cap.
2.2 Be sure to remove the sealing cap from the
central degassing vent on the side of the
battery. Attention: If the central degassing vent
is closed, this can cause the battery case to
fracture, leading to acid leakage.
2.4 Carefully pour in the acid while ensuring that it
is evenly distributed across all chambers. Fill
to no higher than the upper marking. Tilt the
battery slightly several times during filling to
prevent air bubbles. Wipe off any acid splashes
with a damp, anti-static cloth. Larger acid spills
can be neutralised with soapy water.
2.6 The battery you purchased is already 80% dry
charged. For best possible performance, the
battery must be fully charged after being filled
with acid for the first time (Section 4).
2.8 Attach either the supplied hose or the existing hose
on the motorcycle to the central degassing vent, in
order to open it. Attention: If the acid gases are not
discharged correctly, there is a risk of damage to the
vehicle due to burning.
