Handle the product with care; knocks, blows or even a fall from a low height can damage it.
Installation of a Slimline Drive
• For this purpose, remove the four screws of the upper housing cover and take it off. In addition, remove the
rear casing cover.
• Insert the Slimline drive into the drawer, plug the Slimline drive's connector to the corresponding connecti-
on on the board.
• Fasten the Slimline drive to the drawer, using the 2 screws.
• Fasten the rear housing cover back to the enclosure and put on the upper housing cover. Secure the housing
cover, with the screws you removed previously.
• Finally, the 4 provided rubber feet are to be attached to the bottom side; insert them into the screw openings.
Connection
There are two types of USB ports:
• Low-power USB Port
Can supply a maximum power of 100mA, e.g. the USB port for a keyboard or the USB port for a USB hub
without power unit. Such connections are not suitable for operating the drive enclosure with a drive instal-
led.
• High-power USB Port
Can supply a maximum power of 500mA, e.g. the USB port on the motherboard or the USB port on a USB
hub with its own power unit.
Please note:
Depending on the drive, a current of up to 1A is required to start the motor for the CD/DVD/BR
drive. Furthermore, the control circuit board inside the Slimline enclosure also requires a certain
current (approx. 100mA).
Therefore, one single high power USB port does not supply enough current for the CD/DVD/BR
drive.
Some USB ports supply more than 500 mA, although this is not standard.
For this reason, more than one USB port must be used to make the connection, a special Y-cable is provided
for this purpose.
Thus, the current of the USB ports is added together (500mA + 500mA = 1A), this assures the operation of
the Slimline enclosure with a CD/DVD drive installed.
For some drives, even the two connections of the USB Y-cable might not supply enough current. Therefore
another USB cable is provided (adaptor USB plug type A to round plug).
Some notebooks provide their USB-ports with less than 500mA per port. In such cases, it might
not be possible to operate the Slimline enclosure with a drive installed (the drive will not start, it is
not recognised or similar). In this case an external USB hub with its own power supply is to be
used.
Begin connecting the two USB A-plugs of the USB Y-cable to the two USB ports on the computer or on a USB

hub with its own power supply. Only after this should the mini-plug be connected to the disk drive enclosure.

Driver Installation
The drivers for Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 are included in the operating system. Connect the Slimline
drive enclosure with the drive installed to your computer; the device is automatically recognised and the neces-
sary drivers installed.
Handling
The product must not get damp or wet.
Never use the product immediately after it has been taken from a cold room in to a warm one. The condensa-
tion that forms might destroy your unit. Allow the product to reach room temperature, before connecting it to
the power supply and putting it in to use. This may take several hours.
The following unfavourable conditions are to be avoided when installing or transporting the product:
- Damp or excess air humidity
- Extreme cold (<5?) or heat (>35?), direct sunlight
- Dust or flammable gases, fumes or solvents
- Strong vibrations, impacts or blows,
- Strong magnetic fields such as those found close to machinery or loudspeakers
The product is not a toy and should be kept out of the reach of children.
Any maintenance or repair work must only be carried out by authorised personnel.
When installing the device, make sure the cables are not bent or jammed.
The drive should not be moved while writing a CD, DVD or Bluray since this will lead to write errors. Thus, the
completed „burned" data carrier may not be readable or may have errors.
Cleaning
Before cleaning the device, disconnect it from the power supply. Use a clean, dry soft cloth for cleaning. Dust
can easily be removed using a clean, long-haired brush and a vacuum cleaner.
Do not use aggressive cleaning agents as these can cause discolouration of the housing. Do not apply too
much pressure, to avoid scratch marks.
Tips & Notes
• USB2.0 devices are backwards compatible. That means that the Slimline housing with the installed drive
also functions on conventional, „slow" USB1.1 ports – but then only at the maximum USB1.1 speed (effecti-
ve approx. 800kByte/s to 1MByte/s). Several MBytes/sec is possible with USB 2.0.
• The delivery package does not contain the disk authoring software, this has be ordered separately; the
same applies to software for playing CDs, DVDs or Blurays.
• If the enclosure with the inserted drive is not recognised:
- First, connect the two flat USB A plugs on the enclosed USB Y-cable to two free USB ports on your com-
puter and only then insert the USB B plug into the corresponding connector on the drive enclosure.
- Use the provided USB current cable in addition to the USB Y-cable.
- Use the USB ports on your computer (e.g. connectors at the back) instead of using ports on a keyboard
or the suchlike.
- If the drive enclosure has been connected to a USB hub, please note that the USB hub needs to have its
own power supply unit!
- In the case where the drive enclosure is connected to a notebook and it does not work, try to plug in the note-
book's power supply unit. It may be possible that there is not enough current available during battery opera-
tion to power the external drive enclosure.
Alternatively, use a USB hub with its own power supply instead of using the USB ports of your notebook.
Disposal

If you later recognise problems during operation of the drive, (e.g. frequent terminations of bur-
ning procedures) use the provided USB current cable in addition to the USB Y-cable.
Alternatively, a power supply and a conventional USB cable (plug type A to mini-USB) can be
used (none of them are provided). The power supply has to be capable of delivering an output
voltage of 5V= and a current of at least 1.5A; the middle contact of the round plug has to be the
Plus/+ contact.

rements.
