Installation
If you do not have the expertise required to carry out the installation, please
contact a specialist or a specialised outlet and let them do the installation!
Incorrect installation will damage the product, your computer and all connected
devices.
Caution, lethal hazard!
Switch off the computer in which the product is to be installed and all connected
devices and disconnect all devices from the mains voltage, remove the plugs
from the mains supply! Switching the device off with the ON/OFF button is not
sufficient!
• Open your computer's housing and carefully remove the cover.
• The CFAST/SATA mountable drive bay can be inserted into a free 8.89cm/3.5" slot of your
computer casing. With a suitable mounting frame, the CFAST/SATA drive bay can also be
inserted into a large slot (13.335cm/5.25"); this type of frame can be acquired from the acces-
sories dealers.
With some computer casings you have to remove a metal shielding plate for the correspon-
ding slot after removing the plastic cover, before the CFAST/SATA drive bay can be inserted
and tightened in the computer casing.
• Connect the SATA data connector on the CFAST/SATA drive bay to a SATA terminal on the
main board or a plug-incard using a suitable SATA cable.
The SATA power connector is to be connected to the PC mains adapter.
• Secure all cables, so that they cannot slip out of the ports and obstruct a fan in the PC case. Use
for example cable ties to affix them.
• Replace the computer case.
• Connect your computer and monitor to the mains voltage and switch on all devices.
• If your computer does not start up correctly, switch it off at once and check all the settings and
cable connections.
Before you open the computer again, it must be disconnected from the mains
voltage, see above!
Driver installation
After booting Windows, a driver installation is not required. The SATA connector of the main
board or a plug-in card will only be looped through to the CFAST memory card connector. There
is no hardware recognition or the like.
Inserting the CFAST memory card
Insert the CFAST memory card in the opening of the CFAST/SATA drive bay, observing the cor-
rect orientation, until it audibly clicks into place. Do not exert any force.
Inherent to its functional principle, a CFAST memory card works like a conventional
SATA hard disk. For this reason, there is no automatic hardware recognition from
the operating system when the memory card is inserted.
You can, for example, search for new hardware in Windows' control panel. Only then
will the CFAST card be recognised and appear as drive in the file manager after a
few seconds. Alternatively, you can restart the PC.
Writing data on or reading data from the CFAST memory card
www.conrad.com
Normally, a new CFAST memory card is already partitioned and pre-formatted. If a new partitio-
ning/formatting is required, you can do this e.g. under the Disk Management in the control panel
Version 10/10
of Windows.
°
You can use the CFAST memory card like a "normal" hard disc.
When writing on/reading from the CFAST memory card the LED on the front of the CFAST/SATA
drive bay blinks.
Removing the CFAST memory card
As already mentioned above, a CFAST memory card functions like a conventional SATA hard
disc, and not like a USB stick, a SD memory card or another removable media drive.
For this reason, data might be lost if you remove the CFAST memory card while the data transfer
from the cache of Windows to the CFAST memory card is still in progress.
Therefore, we recommend that you only remove the CFAST memory card from the
CFAST/SATA drive bay when the operating system is shut down and the computer is switched
off.
To eject the CFAST memory card, press it slightly into the card slot until you can hear a clicking
sound. Afterwards the card is to be pushed outwards a few millimetres and then it can be removed
easily.
