Description
1 Terminal strip for mini-PCIe slot
2 Power connector
3 Pin strip for USB 3.0 connection
Installation
If you do not have the expertise to install the device correctly, please contact an
expert or a specialist workshop and let them carry out the installation!
Incorrect installation can cause damage to the expansion card and also to
your computer and all connected devices.
Caution, lethal hazard!
Switch off all connected devices and the computer in which the expansion
card is to be installed and disconnect all devices from the mains voltage by
removing the plug from the mains! Just turning off at the on/off switch is not
enough!
• Open your computer's case and carefully remove the cover.
• Find a free mini-PCIe slot and insert the expansion card.
If there are screws or other means of fi xation provided, fasten the expansion card with screws
or clips.
• Connect the included power cable for the expansion card to the power connector (2), then
connect it to an available free plug on the power supply of your PC.
• On the expansion card there is a terminal strip (3) for the USB 3.0 fl atcable (e.g. for connect-
ing to the front side of your case.
If your PC case is not equipped with an internal connection cable, you can get this from a
computer accessory store.
• If necessary, fi x all cables with cable ties so that they cannot obstruct the fan of your computer.
• Close the computer housing.
• Connect your computer and monitor to the mains voltage again and switch on all devices.
• If your computer does not start correctly, switch it off immediately and check all the settings
and cable connections.
Before opening the PC again, disconnect the PC from the mains voltage, see above!
Driver installation
• After Windows has started, it recognises the plug-in card automatically as new hardware.
Interrupt the search for the driver.
• Insert the CD provided in the appropriate drive of your computer. Alternatively, you may copy
the driver software from another computer to a memory stick; that is if your computer does
not have a CD/DVD drive.
• At the time of publishing these instructions, the driver for the expansion card could be found
in the directory "USB3.0 Host", subdirectory "NEC".
Start the appropriate program, e.g. "USB3-20340-setup.exe" (the name may have been
changed for later versions) and follow the instructions.
A restart of Windows may be required after installing the driver, before the USB3.0
ports of the expansion card function properly.

Tips and Notes
Important:
It is imperative that the power supply of the expansion card card is connected to a
corresponding connector of your PC's power supply.
• USB2.0/1.1 devices
It is possible, of course, to operate all "old" USB2.0/1.1 devices with a USB 3.0 port.
Use conventional USB2.0/1.1 connection cables to connect the devices.
Normally, USB2.0/1.1 devices do not become any faster when operated on a USB 3.0 port.
However, if the USB2.0 controller on the motherboard works relatively slowly it is possible, for
example, that USB2.0 hard disks can transfer data faster via a USB 3.0 port on the expansion
card.
• USB 3.0 devices
In order to connect a USB 3.0 device, a USB 3.0 cable is necessary. At fi rst glance, the USB-
A plug looks similar to a USB2.0/1.1 plug, however, it has additional internal connector pins.
USB 3.0 provides a theoretical data transfer of 5GBit (approx. 600MByte/s). The transfer
speed in practice depends, however, on the devices involved in the data transfer (internal
and external hard disk), the type of data (many small fi les or few large fi les) and many other
factors.
General
• Many notebooks have a Mini-PCIe slot, which is often used by the WLAN module.
In theory, the expansion card could be inserted here (after removing the WLAN module). In-
stallation in a Notebook is however not possible because of the power connector and cabling
of the USB interface.
• On the expansion card there is a terminal strip (3) for a corresponding USB 3.0 fl atcable (e.g.

for connecting to the front side of your case).
If your PC case is not equipped with an internal connection cable, you can get this from a
computer accessory store.
