Special safety instructions

The battery charger may ONLY be used for
charging the battery types speci cally listed
under Technical data! If you try charging
other battery types, they may explode and
cause material damage or personal injury.
Although the battery charger is equipped
with a spark-safe system and polarity
protection, there is always a certain risk when
charging a battery.
Charging lead acid batteries will generate
hydrogen in gas form, which is both
combustible and explosive. Always make
sure there is plenty of ventilation when
charging a battery.
Avoid ames or sparks in the vicinity of
batteries. Avoid incorrectly connecting
battery cables.
Do not expose the battery charger to water,
damp or splashes.
Always follow the instructions provided by
the battery manufacturer when charging the
battery.
Never attempt to charge a frozen battery.
Always place the battery charger as far from
the battery as the cord will allow.
The battery clamps must never come into
contact with each other or be tted to the
same conductive object, as this may cause a
short circuit.
Make sure that the leads do not get caught
between moving parts in the engine
compartment, such as drive belts, chains or
ventilators.
Never try to start the vehicle when the
battery charger is connected. It CANNOT be
used as a starting aid or power supply.
Use safety glasses when charging batteries.
Do not rub your eyes with your ngers if you
have been touching a battery! Even small
particles of deposits from the battery can be
acidic and, in the worst case, may cause eye
damage.
If you get battery uid on your skin, you must
rinse it immediately with plenty of water,
wash with soap and rinse clean.
If you get battery uid in your eyes, rinse
them immediately with running water for at
least 10 minutes and seek medical assistance.
Preparations before charging
Identify the battery type. Look at the label on
the battery or read the instructions for the
battery.
Turn off everything that consumes electricity
in the vehicle.
Remove the battery from the vehicle, if
necessary. If it is a boat battery, it must
always be removed so that it can be charged
on land.
First disconnect the pole with the chassis
connection (typically minus, negative, black).
Clean the terminals on the battery with a
small brass brush or similar.
Open any caps on the battery and ll with
demineralised water so that the uid level
reaches right up to the mark for each cell
in the battery. If the battery does not have
caps, follow the manufacturer's instructions
concerning charging.
