The intervals for inspecting the
ladder depend on the operating
conditions, in particular the fre-
quency of use, the loads during
use, as well as the frequen-
cy and severity of any defects
detected during previous inspec-
tions.

List of parts to be checked

Periodic checks shall take the
following into account:
Check that bars/legs (upright
parts) are not bent, curved, twi-
sted, dented, torn, corroded or
rotten.
Check that bars/legs around
the fixing points for other parts
are in good condition.
Check that fastenings (usual-
ly rivets, screws, bolts) are not
missing and are not loose or cor-
roded.
The employer must also ensure
that damaged ladders are with-
drawn from use and stored such
that further use is not possible
prior to professional repair or
disposal.
Check that rungs/steps are not
missing and are not loose, hea-
vily worn, corroded or damaged.
Check that joints between the
front and back parts are not
damaged, loose or corroded.
