7. Measuring Tips
Reflective Tape
Cut a square of tape of ± 1cm² and attach it to the target surface.
• the piece of tape should never cover more than half of the target area.
• a target surface that is reflective of its own accord should be painted black or covered with black tape prior
to applying the tape.
• make sure the target surface is smooth and clean when you apply the tape.
Measuring very low rpm's
It is fairly easy to measure fast speeds. When measuring extremely low rpm's you would do well to apply several
squares of tape to the target surface. You can then divide the displayed value by the number of squares.
Also note that this technique makes for more precise measurements as the measuring error is now also divided by
the number of squares of tape.
