Operating instructions
1.
Determine which tools to use according to type of thread to repair; select a suitable bush, tap and centre square.
Put parts together as shown in assembly diagram below.
2.
Grease threaded part of tap, to clean any swarf away.
3.
Fit centre square into spark plug hole; ensure everything is kept in axis by means of handle; then turn tap clockwise using a 12 mm
wrench, preferably with a ratchet eye, until thread is fully restored.
4.
Pull tap out of hole, turning it anticlockwise, until it is fully taken off. Grease should have caught any swarf; clean working area with a
detergent for increased safety, being careful not to leave any traces in cylinder head.
5.
Select a connector with a pitch suiting bush to use, and screw it into bush. Spread a layer of thread adhesive on bush exterior, and
screw bush by hand until it locks in place. Complete tightening with a 13 mm wrench, and remove connector.
6.
Ensure hole interior is clean; then fit spark plug into new seat. If tightening is difficult, slightly grease spark plug thread.
The operation is now completed.
N.B. Always ensure all tools are removed from engine bay, and once returned to case, store this in a safe, dry location.
