Security seal

The security seal which is used is tamper-proof, has authenticity features and satisfies security level 2
according to BSI 7500 "Products for material security" [5].
Authentic and tamper-proof security seals ensure that attempts at manipulating the hardware can be
immediately identified.
The security seal is stuck over the joining edge between the upper and lower parts of the housing. It
is made in such a way that it cannot be removed and stuck back on again without damaging it. This
makes it impossible to open the chip card terminal without damaging the seal.
There are a total of three seals on the chip card terminal:
● one seal on each side
● one seal behind the chip card reader slot.

Seal description

Undamaged original condition
A sequential serial number is printed on the grey seal which is 20 mm long and 12 mm wide. For
instant checking, there is a colour strip with reversible thermocolour to the left of the serial number as
a mark of genuineness. The colour changes for example if the seal is lightly rubbed with a finger,
changing from red to transparent in the process. As an additional mark of genuineness, the seal also
carries an invisible "Security" inscription which becomes visible and can hence be checked under UV
light at 366 nm.
Every seal has a sequential 7-digit number for unique identification. The seal itself is designed to be
destroyed if any attempt is made to remove it from the product. This means that it cannot be peeled
off the product unnoticed and stuck back on again.
If the seal is pulled off, the colour changes over irreversibly, producing a white destruction pattern on
the seal.
In order to detect tampering on the product, please check the seals at regular intervals by inspecting
the above-mentioned marks of genuineness, checking the seal numbers and checking that the
product is intact.
