Operating Instructions
Safety Regulations
Please comply with safety
standard DIN EN 1012-2 for
vacuum pumps.
Alterations to the side channel compressors
may be effected only after agreement by the
factory.
Air compression will
generate high temperatures:
Install compressors in a
position where hot surfaces
cannot be touched. Protect
thearea around them or
install warning signs.
Application
Side channel compressors are used for the
generation of vacuum. Their characteristics
apply up to a height of 800 m above sea
level. They are unsuitable for the transport
or compression of toxic and flammable
media.
When operating side channel compressors,
ensure that only normal atmospheric air can
be taken in. Should dusty media be
handled, ignition temperatures of dust/air
mixtures generated must not be reached.
Transport and storage
Store side channel compressors in a dry
place and protect against water splashes.
Lift and transport by using suitable belts.
Installation
It is recommended to install the compressor
with easy access for maintenance.
Clearance between compressors and
adjacent walls should be no less than 10 cm
of free space in order to ensure sufficient air
flow for cooling. Schmalz GmbH prior to
installation under noise insulation canopies,
contact.
Ambient temperatures must not exceed
40°C. Side channel compressors may be
installed horizontally on a stand or vertically
without a stand (with the motor at the top).
The stand has vibration damping elements
in the fixing holes. The mounting screws
just as firmly, that the foot is not in direct
contact with the ground (gap > 0.5 mm).
The installation face must be flat to ensure
a safe level.

Assembly
Ensure correct dimensions of and clean
pipelines (no weld spatter, chips or similar
contamination).
Ensure that pipelines are no less in
diameter than connecting threads. Use next
larger diameter for pipelines exceeding 2 m
in length.
Keep connections free from oil, grease,
water and other contaminants.
Avoid deviation from maximum pressures
by installation of safety valves.
Remove end caps at DA and SA. Do not
connect to pipeline yet.
Motor connection
Connection of compressors to mains supply
must comply with applicable regulations.
Connect motor based on connecting
diagram (in terminal box) or ready-made
plugs. This work should be carried out by an
experienced electrician only. Check for
connecting voltage and frequency.
Assure yourself whether the locally
available voltage requires star operation
(400V/50Hz/3~) or triangular operation
(230V/50Hz/3~). The bridges in the
clamping box are to be completed
accordingly.
Install motor circuit-breaker (+circuit breaker
Type C) and set to nominal motor current.
(For data see motor rating plate).
Briefly start motor and check
rotation (arrow on casing).
Exchange phases if rotation
is incorrect.
Compressors may restart automatically
after cooling of single-phase a.c. motors
including a temperature monitor. Avoid
switching of more than 10 times per hour.

Commissioning
Connect outlet line at DA and inlet line at
SA. Avoid mechanical stresses by pipe
or casing connection by using flexible
connectors.
Blocked inlet filters or excessive pressure
differentials will cause unacceptable,
excessive operating temperatures (remedy:
pressure- reducing valve).
Avoid exceeding maximum pressure values
by installing safety valves.
Should vacuum and pressure safety valves
be retrofitted, set to maximum operating
pressure as stated on the rating plate during
initial operation. Any safety valves installed
in the factory will be preset.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance of your compressor
will yield the best results. Maintenance
intervals will depend on use and operating
conditions.
Before carrying out any
maintenance, disconnect
motor from mains and
reliably prevent
unintentional restarting.
Clean fan hood and compressor surfaces to
prevent overheating.
