APPS

APPS stands for Active Pump Protection System and offers a
comprehensive monitoring of all security-related functions of the
pump and the noise reduction box. All models with wide range input
are equipped with the system by default. Models with APPS can be
identified by the push-button on the back and the logo on the front.
Marked elements in figure 1 are:
1 : Interface to connect to a PC or to the optional external display
module.
For the connection to a PC the optional interface cable APPS-ICBL
is needed. Connection to ethermet devices or to a telephone may
cause damage to the connected devices.

The following data and functions are monitored during operation:
• Exhaust temperature
• Function and speed of the fans
• Power supply and function of the noise reduction box
• Current consumption of the connected load
There are three user selectable modes. The modes can be switched by pressing the push button for at least
1 0 seconds until a confirmation signal sounds. Depending on the choosen mode the box beeps one, two or
three times.
When critical values are exceeded an optical and acoustical warning shows up. The following list shows the
different warning codes and their meaning.
By pressing the push-button (3) an actual alarm can be muted. Depending on the severity level it is muted
for one hour or one day. The LED keeps blinking representing the beepcode.
Blink/Beepcode: -
While connected to the mains supply the LED has to blink every 5 seconds for one, two or three times.
If not, please press the reset button (4) through the small hole next to the push-button (3) by using a thin
screwdriver or a bent up paper clip. If this does not work, please contact Sonation to discuss further steps.
Blink/Beepcode: 1
The noise reduction box monitors all relevant functions. This mode is the factory default.
By pressing the push-button (3) the function of the piezo speaker can be checked. After 5 seconds at the
latest the speaker should beep one time, confirming OpMode 1 .
Blink/Beepcode: 2
In OpMode 1 the age related wear of the fans is monitored. When the fan speed falls permanently below
80% of the original fan speed an alert shows up. In OpMode 2 this alert is suppressed. Nevertheless on a
total failure of the fans a different alert still shows up.
Blink/Beepcode: 3
In OpMode 1 and OpMode 2 the internal power outlet is switched off if:
1 ) The temperature of the exhaust air reaches a critical value (default: 60°C)
2) All fans fail
3) Too much current is drawn by the load connected to the internal power outlet (default: 1 2A at 1 0A models,
1 9,2A at 1 6A models)
In OpMode 3 this emergency shutdown is deactivated.
This mode may only be used when the expected damage of shutting down the pump will be higher than the
damage that will occur by an overheated pump. When using this mode the user has to assure the proper
function of the pump at any time.
Meaning: APPS module defective
Meaning: OpMode 1 : Normal operation
Meaning: OpMode 2: Age-related wear monitoring deactivated
Meaning: OpMode 3: Age related wear monitoring + emergency
