to the control unit of the automation itself (see fig. 1). Technically, it works as
an "interface" for two-way radio communication of data, between the TCW1/2
radio sensors, connected to the sensitive edges, and the control unit belonging
to the automation on which these edges are installed. The system works as fol-
lows: at the moment when the sensitive edge intervenes, due to an accidental
obstacle or for some other reason, the TCW1/2 sensor (wired to this edge)
transmits the event via radio to the IRW interface. The latter activates its relays
to report the event to the unit to which it is wired. Finally, the unit commands the
envisaged safety action (e.g. reversing the manoeuvre in progress).
The TCW1/2 sensor can be connected to two different types of sensitive edge:
an 8.2 kohm constant resistance edge, or an edge with a photo-optical capsule,
in the specific very low energy version.
Communication between the parts is encrypted using high security techniques,
which make the connection system devices fall into Category 2 for fault safety
according to the EN 13849-1 standard (which replaced EN 954-1) and can
therefore be used in PSPE systems compliant with the EN 12978 standard.
All uses other than the intended use described and use in environmental
conditions other than those described in this manual should be consid-
ered improper and forbidden! Improper use can cause damage or harm
to property and people.

Checks prior to installation and operating limits
Before installing the system, it is necessary to evaluate certain aspects of its
operating principle, in order to achieve maximum safety and functionality.
• By itself, the IRW interface is not a complete wireless connection system, but
only one part of it. As a consequence, in order to use it, it must be combined
with at least one TCW1/2 transceiver sensor and at least one sensitive edge
(devices not included in the pack).
• Make sure that the conditions in which the devices will be used are compatible
with the data shown in the "Technical Specifications" chapter in their instruc-
tion manuals. If in doubt, do not use the devices and ask the Nice technical
assistance service for clarification.
• The IRW interface can be connected to both units equipped with a "Phototest"
output and units without this output. The level of safety and type of sensitive
edge that can be installed depend whether this output is present or not, ac-
cording to the table below:

(*) - The connection system devices fall into Category 2 for safety.
• Make sure that there are no devices that generate continuous radio interfer-
ence in the area around the automation. These could disturb and alter system
operation.
3.1 - Operating limits
• The IRW interface can only be installed in environments protected against
water, humidity and dust.
• The IRW interface can only be connected to a unit with an "Alt" input, which
includes an isolated contact that can be configured in NC mode.
• Up to four TCW1/2 sensors can be associated with a single IRW interface.
• The devices that make up the "wireless" connection system may fall into Cat-
egory 2 for fault safety (according to EN 13849-1), only when connected to
a unit that is able to carry out the "channel test" i.e. check correct operation
of the relays, before starting a manoeuvre, as envisaged by the EN 13849-1
standard Accordingly, check whether your unit has the output dedicated to
this "test" (on Nice units, this is the one for the "Phototest").
• TCW1/2 sensors may be connected to 8.2 kohm resistive edges or photo-
optical edges. If both edges are present in the same system, the entire instal-
lation and operating procedure mirrors that of the photo-optical edge.
• If the TCW1/2 sensor is paired with an edge with photo-optical technology, the
unit must have the "Phototest" output and the connections must be made on
this output.
• If photo-optical edges are installed, it is advisable not to use other devices
in the automation that could lengthen the total time required to perform the
manoeuvre (e.g. photocells).
• The IRW and TCW1/2 devices do not guarantee optimal operation with control
units that include radio communications in the 868 MHz band.
• The TCW2 sensor incorporates a cell for photovoltaic power that means it
can only be installed outdoors, so the cell can receive direct sunlight for most
of the day. Important! – At the point where the sensor will be placed (on the
moving door of the automation), there should not be objects or situations that
could obscure the cell for most of the day (e.g. roofing or similar).
• Additional operational limits are to be inferred from the data shown in the
"Technical Specifications" chapter.
Important! – All installation and connection of the devices must be per-
formed while the automation is disconnected from the electrical power
supply. If there is a buffer battery in the unit, this must be disconnected.
