next, reverse the polarity by reversing the throttle
knob or reversing the wires between Power Exten-
der and transformer.
Connect the Power Extender to the Central Station
using the black cable with phone-style connec-
tors. Plug the connectors into the sockets marked
"BOOSTER" on Central Station and Power Extender.
The MTS Power Extender has a second socket
marked "BOOSTER". Here you can connect another
MTS Power Extender.
Plug the transformers into house current outlets.
Now you can start running trains.
The MTS Power Extender must be used indoors in a
dry location, similar to transformers and the Central
Station. Protect it from moisture. It is not weatherre-
sistant. Do not cover the vents of the Power Exten-
der, as this could cause premature overheating.
Operating Modes and Status Display
Like the MTS Central Station, the MTS Power Exten-
der features two buttons and two LEDs.
The left LED displays the status
LED off
= no power
LED green
= MTS Power Extender ready
LED flashes green = No data received from MTS
Central Station
LED red
= MTS Power Extender overheated
LED flashes red = Short circuit on tracks, emergen-
cy stop or MTS Power Extender
cooled down after overheating
The right LED displays the operating mode
LED off
= Overload or short circuit shuts off
the entire layout
LED yellow
= Overload or short circuit shuts off
only the track block powered by
the MTS Power Extender
LED flashing yellow = Operation with 55063 (Fa.
Massoth) MTS Braking Module;
train will slow to previously selec-
ted speed (including 0 = Stop).
The flashing represents the loco's speed in the slow
section (slow flashing = low speed step; rapid flas-
hing = high speed step; irregular flashing = Stop)
The buttons have the following functions:
= Press to reactivate the power
Reset
supply after a short circuit.
Overload Mode = With this button, you select the
operating mode.
First press and hold the "Overload Mode" button.
Then press the "Reset" button one or several times
to select the desired operating mode. Each time you
press the button, you cycle to the next operating
mode in the order shown above.
To select the speed for the slow section, press the
"Overload Mode" button after selecting the ope-
rating mode "Operations with 55063"; until the LED
flashes in the desired rhythm.

Hints and Tips

You can connect up to 64 MTS Braking Modules (Fa.
Massoth) to one MTS Power Extender. All Braking
Modules will operate with the same speed, selected
on the Power Extender. For example, if you want to
operate both a "slow" section and a "stop" block
(for example, in front of a signal), you will need two
independent Power Extenders.
The MTS Power Extender cannot operate in several
operating modes at once. For example, you cannot
power an MTS Braking Module with the same MTS
Power Extender that you use to provide power to a
separate track section.
If you already use four MTS Power Extenders to
power additional track sections on your layout, you
should not connect additional Power Extenders
- for operating MTS Braking Modules - to the MTS
Central Station. The Power Extenders work with the
MTS Braking Modules even if they are not connec-
ted to the MTS Central Station, because the speed
is selected at the Power Extender. However, loco
functions (lights, whistle, etc.) cannot be activated
in this track section, if the Power Extender is not
connected to the Central Station.
You also can use one MTS Power Extender to provi-
de additional power to several track sections.
For example, it may be useful to power all uphill sec-
tions on your layout with a separate power supply.
The power available in all sections combined equals
the power output of the transformer that powers the
MTS Power Extender (5 amps max.). Obviously, each
track section powered by the MTS Power Extender
must be electrically separate from the rest of the
layout.
