3.3. Tracing pairs or cables
To easily trace a conductor, proceed as follows:
•
connect the modular plug or the red/black leads to the subject wire(s).
•
Move the switch (Fig. 2/b) of TG6 down to the TONE position.
When tone is being transmitted the LINE LED blinks green.
•
Thanks to the PT6 probe search and locate the signal in the cable
bundles. The probe generates an acoustic (Fig. 1/b) and visual
(Fig. 1/c) signal whose intensity varies according to the intensity of
the received signal (detected low in low signal, high when the de-
tected signal is strong). In addition, (thus you can easily distin-
guish, for example, the 50Hz signal from the approximately 1kHz
Tone generator-signal ), the acoustic signal represents the type of
the detected frequency.
3.4. Sensitivity adjustment
To change the volume level, utilize the black wheel (Fig. 1/f) found on
the right side of the unit. To increase sensitivity (volume) turn the wheel
counterclockwise, to decrease it turn it clockwise. Start with the
maximum volume to locate the cable. After the cables are located using
the strongest signal, set the volume to low to find the precise location of
the desired cable. The highest signal is always above the desired
cable.
3.5. Filter Mode
The PT6 Advanced Probe has 2 modes of operation: normal and filter
modes. For normal mode, do nothing after turning the unit on (Fig.
1/a). The PT6 automatically defaults to normal mode. For filter mode
(limiting background AC interference), push the on/off button again
(Fig. 1/a) and green filter LED (Fig.1/d) will light, indicating that the re-
jection circuitry has been activated. With the probe activated, attempt to
get as close as possible to the far end of the wire that the tone genera-
tor is connected to. The wire emitting the loudest tone is almost always
the one the tone generator is connected to and therefore the one you
are seeking. In addition, the second LED on the probe will light green
the closer you are to the target wire.
3.6. Use of external headsets (not included)
The rear of the PT6 tone probe is equipped with a earphone jack
3,5mm. If desired, you may insert a earphone into the jack and receive
