Desk Microphone for Dante
Audio Networks
These instructions are intended for installers
with knowledge in network technology. Please
read the instructions carefully prior to operation
and keep them for later reference.
1 Applications
This desk microphone is specially designed for am-
plification systems based on Dante audio networks.
It is equipped with an electret cartridge with hy-
percardioid directivity and provides three-step level
attenuation as well as a switchable high-pass filter.
For the talk button, four different operating modes
are available. The button is illuminated; the colour
of the button will indicate the current status of the
microphone.
The network will provide the microphone with
power via PoE (Power over Ethernet).
1.1 Dante
Dante, an audio network developed by the compa-
ny Audinate, allows transmission of up to 512 audio
channels at the same time. Dante (Digital Audio Net-
work Through Ethernet) uses a common Ethernet
standard and is based on the Internet protocol. The
transmission of audio signals is uncompressed and
synchronized, with minimum latency. The advantage
over analog audio signal transmission is a cost-effec-
tive connection of components via standard network
cables and low susceptibility to interference, even in
case of long transmission paths. In addition, signal
routing between components that have once been
connected can be changed by software at any time.
In the Dante network, units configured as trans-
mitters are used as signal sources. Units configured as
receivers receive the signals from the Dante network.
Even though the audio signal of the microphone is
monophonic, the ECM-300DT provides two trans-
mission channels that can be independently connect-
ed in the Dante network.
The transmitting channels and reception chan-
nels are assigned in the Dante network via the
Dante configuration program "Dante Controller"
(
chapter 6). The Ethernet interface is also config-
ured via this program (
 chapter 6.2). For correct
configuration, knowledge in network technology is
indispensable.

2 Important Notes
The unit corresponds to all relevant directives of the
EU is therefore marked with
.
The unit is suitable for indoor use only. Protect it
against dripping water, splash water and high air
humidity. The admissible ambient temperature
range is 0 – 40 °C.
For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth; never use
water or chemicals.
No guarantee claims for the unit and no liability for
any resulting personal damage or material damage
will be accepted if the unit is used for other pur-
poses than originally intended, if it is not correctly
connected or operated, or if it is not repaired in an
expert way.

If the unit is to be put out of operation defi-
nitively, take it to a local recycling plant for a
disposal which is not harmful to the environ-
ment.
3 Connection
1) Connect the plug (7) of the microphone to the
XLR jack (5) of the base. The plug will lock in the
jack; to remove the plug, press the latch to unlock
the plug.
Note: The phantom power required by the microphone
cartridge is available at the jack. The phantom voltage
depends on the PoE used and will be limited to 42 V.
Make sure to take this into account when selecting an
alternative microphone.

2) For connection to a Dante network, connect the
RJ45 jack (8) to an Ethernet switch that at least
supports Fast Ethernet (100 Mbit /s Ethernet). This
connection will also supply the microphone with
power via the network (e. g. via a network switch
with PoE supply).

4 Operation

The ECM-300DT will operate as soon as it connected
to power supply (PoE network component). The con-
trol button will flash while the connection is being
established.
1) Use the program "Dante Controller" to include
the microphone into a Dante network (
ter 6).
2) Depending on the operating mode selected, press
the control button (6) and speak into the micro-
phone cartridge (1) at close range.
The colour of the button will indicate the status
of the microphone:
blue = microphone switched on
red = microphone switched off
4.1 Selecting the operating mode
Use the switch (2) under the base to define the op-
erating mode, i. e. the functionality of the control
button (6):
PTM (Push To Mute)
The microphone is generally switched on. To mute
the microphone temporarily, press the control but-
ton.
PTT (Push To Talk)
The microphone is generally switched off. To make
an announcement, keep the control button pressed.
ON / OFF
The microphone will be switched on after the power
supply has been switched on. To switch between
"on" and "off", briefly press the control button.
OFF/ ON
The microphone will be switched off after the power
supply has been switched on. To switch between
"on" and "off", briefly press the control button.

4.2 Adapting the microphone signal
1) Use the button (3) under the base to attenuate
2) To suppress low-frequency interference noise (e. g.
