4 Setting the Controller into Operation
GB
4.1 Connecting stroboscopes with
analog control
For analog control of stroboscopes, a short +5 V volt -
age pulse is provided for each flash at the jacks ANA-
LOG OUTPUT (11). Connect the stroboscopes to the
jacks via cables with 6.3 mm mono plugs:
connect stroboscope 1 to jack CH 1
connect stroboscope 2 to jack CH 2
connect stroboscope 3 to jack CH 3
connect stroboscope 4 to jack CH 4
4.2 Adjusting and connecting DMX-controlled
stroboscopes
The stroboscopes must be provided with two DMX
control channels (first channel for the flash rate; sec -
ond channel for the flash intensity). Adjust the start
address on each stroboscope (→ manual of the stro-
boscopes):
for stroboscope 1 the start address 1
for stroboscope 2 the start address 3
for stroboscope 3 the start address 5
for stroboscope 4 the start address 7
The stroboscopes are connected with 3-pole XLR
cables (pin configuration: 1 = ground, 2 = DMX-, 3 =
DMX+). Special cables for high data flow should be
used. Standard microphone cables with screening and
a minimum cross section of 2 × 0,22 mm
capacity as low as possible can only be recommended
for a total cable length of up to 100 m. For cable
lengths exceeding 150 m it is recommended to insert a
DMX level matching amplifier (e. g. SR-103DMX by
"img Stage Line").
1) Connect the XLR jack DMX OUTPUT (12) to the
DMX signal input of the first stroboscope. (The XLR
jack has a latching; to remove the plug, press the
PUSH lever.)
2) Connect the DMX output of the first stroboscope to
the DMX input of the following stroboscope; con-
nect its output again to the input of the following
stroboscope, etc. until all stroboscopes have been
connected in a chain.
3) Terminate the DMX output of the last stroboscope in
the chain with a 120 Ω resistor (> 0.3 W): Solder the
resistor to the pins 2 and 3 of an XLR plug and con-
nect the plug to the DMX output or use a corre -
sponding terminating plug (e. g. DLT-123 by "img
Stage Line").
4.3 Connecting the power supply
Connect the plug-in power supply unit supplied to
the power supply jack (10) and to a mains socket
(230 V~/50 Hz).

5 Operation

Switch on the controller with the POWER switch (9).
Each time the controller is switched on, the Blackout
function (→ chapter 5.3) is activated and the AUTO
mode with chase programme Nr. 0 is adjusted (→ chap-
ter 5.1.1).
After operation, switch off the controller with the
POWER switch. If it is not used for a longer period, dis-
connect the power supply unit from the socket as it will
have a low power consumption even when the con -
troller is switched off.
5.1 Selecting the operating mode
The button MODE (2) allows selection between the
two operating modes AUTO and SOUND; the corre -
sponding LED above the button will show the mode
selected.
5.1.1 AUTO mode
In the AUTO mode, the chase programme (flash pat-
tern) currently selected will be automatically executed.
The buttons CHASE (3) are used to select the desired
programme from 10 programmes available (→ table in
chapter 6.1):

The display (1) will indicate the number of the pro-
gramme currently selected.

and with a
In the SOUND mode, the flashing of the stroboscopes
connected is controlled by music; the integrated micro-
phone of the controller will respond to music with a clear
rhythm in the bass range. If the music control should fail
to operate optimally, increase the volume or reduce the
distance between the sound source and the controller.
5.2 Adjusting the flash rate and the
flash intensity
In the AUTO mode, the control SPEED (4) is used to
adjust the flash rate: the further the control is ad -
vanced, the more rapidly the stroboscopes will flash.
For DMX-controlled stroboscopes, the flash inten-
sity in both operating modes is adjustable in the range
of 20 % to 100 % with the control DIMMER (5).
5.3 Blackout and single flash functions
With the Blackout function activated, the sleep mode
(lamp off) is switched on for all stroboscopes. To acti-
vate the function, press the button BLACKOUT (6); the
LED above the button will be on when the function is
activated. To deactivate the function, press the button
once again.
When the button SINGLE FLASH (8) is pressed
while the Blackout function is activated, all strobo -
scopes will flash just once.
