Bestimmungsgemäße Verwendung
In das Gehäuse kann eine 3.5"-Festplatte (SATA oder IDE) eingebaut werden. Der Betrieb ist über eine
USB2.0-Schnittstelle möglich. Falls eine SATA-Festplatte eingesetzt wird, kann auch der vorhandene
eSATA-Anschluss des Gehäuses genutzt werden.
Dieses Produkt erfüllt die gesetzlichen nationalen und europäischen Anforderungen. Alle enthaltenen
Firmennamen und Produktbezeichnungen sind Warenzeichen der jeweiligen Inhaber. Alle Rechte vorbe-

Aus Sicherheits- und Zulassungsgründen (CE) ist das eigenmächtige Umbauen und/oder Verändern des
Produkts nicht gestattet.
Das Produkt ist nur zum Betrieb in trockenen Innenräumen vorgesehen, es darf nicht feucht oder nass
werden, Lebensgefahr durch elektrischen Schlag!
Lassen Sie das Verpackungsmaterial nicht achtlos liegen, dieses könnte für Kinder zu einem gefährlichen
Spielzeug werden.
Gehen Sie vorsichtig mit dem Produkt um, durch Stöße, Schläge oder dem Fall aus bereits geringer Höhe
wird es beschädigt.
Einbau einer Festplatte
• Lösen Sie die beiden hinteren Schrauben und ziehen Sie die beiden Gehäusehälften vorsichtig
auseinander.
• Je nach vorhandener Festplatte (IDE oder SATA) ist im Inneren der jeweilige Kabeladapter zu
verwenden. Wenn eine IDE-Festplatte verwendet wird, so ist diese auf „Master" einzustellen (Anleitung
zur Festplatte beachten).
• Verbinden Sie den Stromstecker und den Datenanschluss mit der Festplatte.
• Schrauben Sie die Festplatte fest.
• Setzen Sie die beiden Gehäusehälften zusammen und drehen Sie die beiden Schrauben wieder ein.
Treiber-Installation
Starten Sie Ihren Computer.
Bei Windows ME/XP ist die mitgelieferte Treiber-CD nicht erforderlich, da der benötigte Treiber bereits
Bestandteil des Betriebssystems ist.
Bei Windows 98SE ist die CD in das entsprechende Laufwerk des Computers einzulegen und der Treiber
zu installieren. Danach ist ggf. ein Neustart erforderlich.
Anschluss
Die Verwendung von eSATA ist nur dann möglich, wenn Sie eine SATA-Festplatte
eingebaut haben. Bei Verwendung einer IDE-Festplatte ist kein eSATA-Betrieb
möglich, verwenden Sie den USB-Anschluss.
Der gleichzeitige Anschluss des Gehäuses über eSATA und USB ist nicht möglich!
• Bringen Sie den Schalter auf der Rückseite des Gehäuses in die Stellung „USB" (IDE- oder SATA-
Festplatte) bzw. „eSATA" (nur bei SATA-Festplatte möglich).
• Schalten Sie Ihren Computer ein und warten Sie, bis das Betriebssystem vollständig geladen ist.
• Verbinden Sie den Niederspannungsstecker des mitgelieferten Netzteils mit der dazugehörigen
Buchse auf der Rückseite des Festplattengehäuses.
• Verbinden Sie das Netzteil mit der Netzspannung.
• Verwenden Sie zum Anschluss des Festplattengehäuses an den Computer entweder den USB-
Anschluss oder den eSATA-Anschluss (nur bei SATA-Festplatte möglich!). Schalten Sie das Festplatten-
gehäuse ein.
• Windows erkennt nun das Laufwerk automatisch und schließt die Treiberinstallation ab.

Eine neue Festplatte muss zuerst partitioniert und formatiert werden, bevor das Laufwerk
im Datei-Explorer erscheint und verwendet werden kann.
Festplatte partitionieren/formatieren

Bitte beachten Sie, dass Windows 98/98SE/98ME und auch ältere Versionen von Windows
XP bei größeren Festplatten (Speicherkapazität gesamt >137GByte) Probleme haben. Das
bedeutet, dass es zu Datenverlust kommen kann.

Wir empfehlen Ihnen deshalb dringend, beim Einsatz großer Festplatten mindestens

Windows XP mit Service Pack 2 zu verwenden oder alternative Betriebssysteme, die mit so
großen Festplatten umgehen können.
• Bei Windows XP ist das Partitionieren und Formatieren sehr leicht über die Computerverwaltung
möglich (klicken Sie in der Systemsteuerung auf "Verwaltung", dann auf "Computerverwaltung",
"Datenspeicher" und zuletzt auf "Datenträgerverwaltung"). Wählen Sie dort die richtige Festplatte aus
und legen Sie eine neue Partition an. Anschließend ist diese zu formatieren.
• Bei Windows 98SE/ME dagegen sind die Befehle „FDISK" (zum Partitionieren) und „FORMAT" (zum
Formatieren) erforderlich.
Starten Sie die MSDOS-Eingabeaufforderung und geben Sie „FDISK" ein. Unter dem Menüpunkt „5.
Wechseln der aktuellen Festplatte" ist die externe Festplatte auszuwählen. Beispiel: Wenn Sie nur eine
interne Festplatte besitzen, wählen Sie die Festplatte „2". Danach kann eine primäre Partition angelegt
werden.
Verlassen Sie FDISK mit der ESC-Taste und führen Sie einen Neustart durch.
Anschließend kann die Partition auf der neuen Festplatte entweder über den Datei-Explorer von
Windows formatiert werden oder mit dem „FORMAT"-Befehl in der MSDOS-Eingabeaufforderung
(unbedingt darauf achten, dass die neue Festplatte formatiert wird und nicht eine bereits vorhandene
Festplatte bzw. Partition, Datenverlust!).
Handhabung
Der Betrieb ist nur in trockenen Innenräumen zulässig. Das Produkt darf nicht feucht oder nass werden.
Vermeiden Sie folgende widrige Umgebungsbedingungen am Aufstellungsort oder beim Transport:
- Nässe oder zu hohe Luftfeuchtigkeit
- Extreme Kälte oder Hitze, direkte Sonneneinstrahlung
- Staub oder brennbare Gase, Dämpfe oder Lösungsmittel
- starke Vibrationen, Stöße, Schläge
- starke Magnetfelder, wie in der Nähe von Maschinen oder Lautsprechern
Verwenden Sie das Produkt niemals gleich dann, wenn es von einem kalten in einen warmen Raum
gebracht wird. Das dabei entstehende Kondenswasser kann unter Umständen das Produkt zerstören.
Lassen Sie das Produkt zuerst auf Zimmertemperatur kommen, bevor es verwendet wird. Dies kann
u.U. mehrere Stunden dauern.
Eine Wartung oder Reparatur darf nur duch eine Fachwerkstatt durchgeführt werden.
Achten Sie beim Aufstellen des Produkts darauf, dass die Kabel nicht geknickt oder gequetscht werden.
Tipps & Hinweise
• USB-Geräte erlauben das Ein- und Ausstecken während dem Betrieb.
Sie sollten dabei aber beachten, dass evtl. Dateien beschädigt werden könnten oder Windows
abstürzen könnte, wenn bei einer Datenübertragung das Verbindungskabel herausgezogen wird (bzw.
das Gehäuse ausgeschaltet oder das Netzteil abgesteckt wird).
Bei Windows ME/XP erscheint bei USB-Betrieb ein Pfeil-Symbol in der Menüleiste, über das man
Windows anweisen kann, das Gerät zu „trennen", die Datenübertragungen also so zu beenden, dass
man das Verbindungskabel gefahrlos abstecken kann.
• USB2.0-Geräte sind abwärtskompatibel. Das bedeutet, dass das USB2.0-Gehäuse mit der eingebau-
ten Festplatte auch an herkömmlichen „langsamen" USB1.1-Ports funktioniert, aber dann eben nur in
der maximalen USB1.1-Geschwindigkeit (effektiv ca. max. 1MByte/s). Bei USB2.0 sind mehrere
MBytes/s möglich.
• Unter DOS bzw. Windows NT ist kein Betrieb der USB-Festplatte möglich.
• Die eSATA-Verbindung sollte während dem Betrieb des Produkts nicht getrennt werden, um Daten-
verlust zu vermeiden. Fahren Sie Ihr Betriebssystem herunter, schalten Sie den Computer und danach
das Festplattengehäuse aus.
Entsorgung

Entsorgen Sie das Produkt am Ende seiner Lebensdauer gemäß den geltenden gesetzli-
chen Bestimmungen.

Prescribed use
A 3.5" hard disk (SATA or IDE) can be installed into the case. It can be operated via a USB2.0 interface.
If a SATA hard disk is used, the existing eSATA connection of the case can be used.
The product meets the requirements of the current European and national guidelines. All company names

improper use or the failure to observe the safety instructions! The guarantee will

The product is not a toy and should be kept out of reach of children!
The unauthorized conversion and/or modification of the product is inadmissible because of safety and
approval reasons (CE).
The product is intended for use in dry indoors, it must not get damp or wet; danger of electric shock!
Do not leave packaging material unattended. It may become a dangerous toy for children!
Handle the product with care; knocks, blows or even a fall from a low height can damage it.
Installation of a hard disk
• Unscrew both back screws and carefully disassemble the two halves of the case.
• Depending on the existing hard disk (IDE or SATA), the corresponding cable adapter is to be used
inside. If an IDE hard disk is used, this is to be set to "Master" (please observe the hard disk manual).
• Connect the mains plug and the data connection with the hard disk.
• Tighten the hard disk with screws.
• Put the two halves of the case together and tighten the two screws again.
Driver installation
Start your computer.
For Windows ME/XP, the supplied driver CD is not required since the required driver is already an integral
part of the operating system.
For Windows 98SE, the CD has to be inserted into the corresponding drive of the computer and the driver
to be installed. Afterwards, it may be necessary to reboot.
Connection
The use of eSATA is only possible when a SATA hard disk is installed. When using
an IDE hard disk, there is no eSATA operation possible, please use the USB
connection.
Connecting the case via eSATA and via USB at the same time is not possible!
• Set the switch on the back of the case to the "USB" position (IDE or SATA hard disk), or "eSATA" (only
possible with SATA hard disk).
• Switch your computer on and wait until the operating system has been booted completely.
• Connect the low voltage plug of the mains adapter (included in the delivery) with the corresponding
socket on the back of the hard disk case.
• Connect the mains adapter with the mains voltage.
• For connecting the hard disk case to the computer, use either the USB connection or the eSATA
connection (only possible with a SATA hard disk!). Switch on the hard disk case.
• Windows now recognises the drive automatically and completes the driver installation.

A new hard disk has to be partitioned and formatted first before the drive appears in the file
explorer and can be used.

Please note that Windows 98/98SE/98ME and also older versions of Windows XP will have
problems with larger hard disks (total memory capacity > 137GByte). This means that there
may be loss of data.

This is why we urgently recommend using at least Windows XP with service pack 2 when

using large hard disks, or alternative operating systems that can deal with such large hard
disks.
• For Windows XP, partitioning and formatting is very easy via the computer management (click
"Management" in system control, then "Computer Management", "Data Storage" and at last "Disk
Management"). This is where you select the correct hard disk and create a new partition. Afterwards,
this has to be formatted.
• Windows 98SE/ME requires the commands "FDISK" (for partitioning) and "FORMAT" (for formatting).
Start the MSDOS prompt and enter "FDISK". Under menu item "5. Changing the current hard disk" the
external hard disk has to be selected. Example: If you only have one internal hard disk, select hard disk
"2". Afterwards, a primary partition can be created.
Leave FDISK with the ESC button and reboot your computer.
Afterwards, the partition on the new hard disk can be formatted via the Windows File Explorer or via the
command "FORMAT" in the MSDOS prompt (make absolutely sure to format the new hard disk and not
an already existing hard disk or partition. Data loss!).
Handling
The product is only to be used in dry indoor locations. The product must not get damp or wet. The following
unfavourable conditions are to be avoided at the place of installation or during transport:
- moistness or too high air humidity
- extreme coldness or heat, direct sunlight
- dust or flammable gases, fumes or solvents
- strong vibrations, shocks, impacts
- strong magnetic fields such as exist near machines or loudspeakers
Never use the product immediately after it has been brought from a cold room into a warm one.
Condensation water that forms might destroy the product.
Leave the product switched off and wait until it has reached room temperature before using it. This
can sometimes take several hours.
Any maintenance or repair work may be performed by authorized personnel only.
When installing the device, make sure the cables are not bent or jammed.
Tips & Notes
• USB devices are hot swappable, they can be plugged in and out during operation.
However, bear in your mind that files might get damaged or Windows might crash if the connecting cable
is pulled out during data transmission (or the case is switched off or the mains adapter is disconnected).
In Windows ME/XP you can see an arrow in the menu bar during USB operation by means of which you
can instruct Windows to disconnect the device, i.e. to finish data transmission in order to be able to
disconnect the connecting cable without any danger.
• USB2.0 devices are downward compatible. This means that the USB2.0 case with the built-in hard disk
also works on conventional "slower" USB1.1 ports – but in this case only with the maximum USB1.1
speed (effectively approx. max. 1MByte/s). For USB2.0, several MBytes/s are possible.
• The USB hard disk cannot be operated with DOS or Windows NT.
• The eSATA connection should not be separated while operating the product in order to prevent any loss
of data. Shut down your operating system, switch off your computer and then the hard disk housing.
Disposal

At the end of its useful life, dispose of the product in accordance with the relevant statutory
regulations!
